Realised i done timing belt without disconnecting battery, should i disconnect it b4 starting engine to clear ecu memory and let it relearn values. Not having a good day. -
While doing the timing belt i thought i would spin the water pump pulley to see if there is any sound of water swooshing, couldnt hear any so I'm assuming the blades have fell off so going to get a new pump and stat next week. What antifreeze do i need, usually use bluecol in my previous cars but not sure with galaxy's as everything seems critical (oil, antifreeze etc) Got blue/green in there at moment.

Just been out side AGAIN,cleaned edge of flywheel with long cotton buds (don't take the p**s) now i can see a definite stamp mark lined up with a pointer in the hole looking down. What does the mark look like? -

Totally agree about being a pig of a job, thinking of all the labour charge i am saving is keeping me smiling (at the moment). What does the timing mark look like all i have found is a small raised bump on the upper face behind the ring gear, sorry about vague discription.Cheers  -
Hi folks please help. I'm doing my timing belt (1.9 TDi 1999) I've set the engine up on TDC camshaft bar and pump locking pin in place but i cant see the timing mark on the flywheel i am using a mirror and a torch (stupid place for an inspection hole if you ask me) but i cant see the flywheel mark. Until i see the mark is lined up i ain't taking the old belt off.Engine was running perfect so dont think timing is out.The old belt has got a big split in it so doing it just in time.Anyone got a tip on how to see this flywheel mark.many thanks.

Starting Motor On Mk1 Diesel
marty16610 replied to Buncers's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Stand in front and look down at your radiator fan/s the starter motor is on the front of the gearbox bell housing, best removed from underneath. -
Will change it at the weekend and let u know what i find. Many thanks all

Hi m8, I thought of that but she only takes 5-10 Min's to warm up.I have read elsewhere on this forum from someone who reckons their bottom hose is always cold because these engines are very "thermal efficient" unquote.I haven't ruled out the stat yet though.

Hi people.Only bought my Galaxy 2 weeks ago,i have never owned a diesel before but have spent my working life as a mechanic/fitter but i can't work this out.Vehicle is a TDi Zetec 1999,50k on clock,Full dealer service history and runs sweet as a nut BUT whenever i use it no matter how far i drive the bottom rad hose is always cold.It doesn't overheat (temp gauge sits between O and R on the gauge, heater always blows HOT all the time, starts first spin every morning etc.If the water pump has gone the heater wouldn't blow hot? if the stat was stuck shut it would overheat? Maybe its me being a plonker and not being used to the runnings of these VW lumps but this is bugging the hell out of me.Im doing the timing belt and tensioner at the weekend so any pointers in the right direction will be much appreciated.CHEERS

Tdi Owners - Stupid Question For You All
marty16610 replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
hitchhiker-I changed the coolant temp sensor (NOT the TEMP GAUGE SENDER).Its located in a plastic outlet on the upper face of the front of the block. Quite easy to do,if you disconnect the breather pipe that runs down the front of the block you can get to it easier.Disconnect wiring plug, remove securing clip and GENTLY pull sensor from housing. If you can insert new sensor as old one is removed you only loose a very small amount of coolant, otherwise drain down to below sensor level.Remember to renew sealing ring. This sensor also determines the glow plug preheat timing.Cost -
