  1. I have a 1998 1.9TDI. I fitted new rear discs and pads a couple of years ago and all has been fine until about a month ago. On a short drive from home I suddenly became aware that the rear brakes were binding and overheating. Got the vehicle home and when all had cooled off, I removed the calipers and after have checked for any damage I wound the pistons back (they were easy to turn and not seized), checked, cleaned and regreased the caliper sliders and then re-assembled everything. I then checked all the handbrake mechanism, cables and arms, and then readjusted the cable making sure that it was on the loose side rather than over tight. All was then fine until today when the whole thing happened again. Any suggestions please?
  2. Thanks again. Will keep you informed...
  3. Hi and thanks. Have found the relevant section on removing the ECU to get at the internal MAP sensor pipe. What size pipe is it please? It looks like a specific part or can I use a piece of standard pipe?
  4. I have a 1998 1.9TDI (90bhp?) which has always been very sluggish. A nifty artic has been known out accelerate it! I put a new MAF and replaced the pipes going from the N75 unit to the turbo. Full power was restored but a related problem has now become apparent. In say 3rd or 4th gear and acclerating hard when the engine is working quite hard, it gets to about 3,500 RPM and then there is a distinct hesitation and the engine reverts to it's previous not being able to pull the skin off a rice pudding. If I turn the engine off and restart all is OK until the same thing happens again. I suspect that the turbo is over blowing and the ecu is shutting the system down into a safe mode. Any suggestions on where to look please.
  5. My '98 1.9TDI has done about 100,000 miles. The engine seems sound with good compression, doesn't burn oil or smoke (oil or diesel). It starts easily even in the coldest weather and pulls well when cold. However as the engine warms up it gets progressively more and more sluggish until when hot it "won't pull the skin of a rice pudding". When loaded up it has a job out accelerating a sprightly artic! Help please...
