Climate Control, Disabling The Aircon
SteveB replied to SteveB's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for that, wasn't sure if ECON switched it off or just put it into a low mode. The pulley is fine, tbh having spent close on £2000 already on it this year and having had at least one major issue every year since getting it ( three years ago , reckon ive bought the car twice now )I'm loathe to spend any more on it. It's a shame as my previous one was almost faultless. Now it's a case of trading it in for something cheap then next year I'm looking at getting a Mazda Bongo ( once the kids have left I'll convert it to a full camper ). -
Hi Guys Just a quick question, my A/C compressor pump has siezed on my 03 Galaxy and I'm looking at around £1000 to get a new one and get it changed. TBH I a) don't have the money and :) sick of pouring money into the damn car only for something else to go wrong, so I'm getting shot of it. In the meantime it's still drivable so long as the aircon doesn't kick in. It has climate control and at the moment I'm running it with everything off so it could be a bit chilly in the next few weeks lol. Is there any way I can disable the aircon so that I'll still have heat but not run the compressor? thanks in advance Steve

Vibration And "clinking" Noise Over 2000rpm
SteveB replied to SteveB's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Found the problem!, Fords hadn't tightened up one of the mounting bolts!!!! :angry2: :angry2: :angry2: -
Ok, heres the saga of my 03 Galaxy 1.9TDI ( 100K on the clock ).... Noticed a slight clinky ( sorry best description I could come up with ) noise and a juddering in the steering when turning from a stadnstill just before christmas and decided since it was winter to take it in to Fords and get a winter service done and get the noise looked at. 1 new timing belt and tensioner later and a change of coolant and the noise had gone ( though the steering was still a bit "iffy" ). Didn't get a chance to take it back over christmas so lived with it however over christmas the heater packed in. Back to Fords again in the new year to be told I had a blockage in the heating system and it would require flushing. Whilst they did that they also diagnosed that the waterpump needed changing. Got the car back and we had heat (yay), however car still wasn't quite right ( vibration at speed ) so I decided to get the balancing done, balancing and 1 new tyre later ( Mr Ford hadn't spotted a tear on the inside of the rear wheel  ) and all was good. Till about 1 week ago when the "clinking" noise was back accompanied by a high frequency vibration through the whole car above 2000rpm ( it sounds like the exhaust is blowing but theres no loss in power ). So back it went ( different garage this time, oh note steering still not right at this point ). 1 new alternator later and steering cured but that bloody clinking and vibration is still there! aaaargh! taking it to see a family friend ( whose a saab mechanic ) on Sat to see what he says! Any pointers guys? ( other than a can of petrol and a match which is the way I feel right now! ). This is my second galaxy, the first was lovely but this one ( and a close shave prior to buy ing this one with one which shouldn't have been on the road, but thats another story ) has put me right off them now. Soon as I can scrape some money together I'm off to buy a Mazda Bongo as this car has cost me a fortune! ( Aircon, driveshaft, 2 new rear dampers, and now this in the space of about 2 years! ). In the meantime I have to sort this one out  ( I also have a feeling that I'm being ripped off by ford big time as everytime it goes in for a service something else goes wrong!)

Listening To Iphone In The Car
SteveB replied to freyja's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Hi what model cd/radio player do you have. I've got a Pioneer DEH-P4100SD which has a usb slot in the front and controls my iPhone without any adapters. As they've now been supeceeded with a newer model you could probably pick one up quite cheap ( and plug in a 16gb SD card and you've got all the music you can handle, I also use USB memory sticks as well ) Don't try getting the steering controls to work with it though ( had many attempts at this and no sucess yet! ) -
Yes and this is ( though the warranty is 3rd Party and I'm still waiting to see how much they'll cough up ). However I do feel that this is more a case of bad luck than anything as the car has an unblemished service and MOT history. :( TBH given the rest of the car is pretty much A1 I'm fairly relaxed about, that and I have got to the stage now where I just need the car! and can't be arsed to go through all the rigmoral of legalese :D btw what do you mean by "chipped"?

Lol... ( I have to laugh or I'd have a mental breakdown )... Just heard from the Garage, Recon Box + Labour just under

Do you ever get the feeling that someone somewhere really has it in for you? , maybe I smashed a mirror recently or stepped on a black cat!...... Wednesday night ( 2 days before going on a day trip to France )... turned right at a set of lights... bang... ( no not another car ) ... gearbox gone ... warranty only covers up to

For those of you who have been following the saga of my car I picked up an absolutley smashin 03 plate tdi Ghia this evening. 65000 (circa) miles, full dealership stamps and all electrics work (barring the temperature on the AC which seems to be reading wrong by about 40 degrees, did wonder if it was set to Farenheit but the sums don't add up ). Anyway its smashing so fingers crossed .....will post piccies soon.. p.s. Sorry for the duplicate post :D one of those days...

I'll see what they say when they take it back ( I beleive they have to be given a chance to put things right ), I'm telling them that I'm having the vehicle re-inspected on return and at the very least I want the

... the story continues B) ...... ( not for the faint hearted!..... ) Took the car into my local garage ( super bunch of guys, I've used them for a while now ).. anwyay they fixed the airbag and where looking at a few other faults, they asked me to pop over as the following was revealed : Badly Corroded Brake lines at the rear!!! ;) :D ( I looked at them and they were falling apart! ) Front steering rack gaitor loose tear in front ball joint cover font Brake disks worn Exccesive (sp) noise in the gear box / clutch 2 actuator motors for AC not working ( hence why I was getting no heat to my tootsies! not fun in this weather! ) Garden hose ( or similar ) used to patch a break in the AC line No gas in the AC Front and rear parking sensors need 2 new sensors Corrosion under the handbrake lever ( should have warranted a cautionary advise note on the MOT ) Speed sensor requiriing replacement No communication with the auxhiliary heater Basically their tester couldn't believe it had passed an MOT 2 weeks ago! Phoned the dealer and let them have it...... they are picking the car up tomorrow and giving me a courtesy car... I'm giving them a great long list ( and I'll have it checked when I get the car back ) .... ARGH! ......
-
Thanks guys. Don't think I have much to go on with the speedo as it's an intermittent fault and the vehicle has a years MOT so I would hazard a guess it was working at the time. The airbag is another matter entirely and I will be giving them a call about it.
-
If I were you I'd take it back for a full refund and find one without major faults. unfortunately the warranty only covers mechanical ( gearbox and engine ) so it's a case of tough ( second hand dealer not a main dealer sadly ). Also they owe me money for the tax as they wrote out the wrong amount so I'm waiting to see if that turns up before I start getting nasty. Once it does I'll also be having a rather intersting chat with them about why they left a side impact airbag under the passenger seat and plugged in!!!! Unfotunatley the garage is the other side of London from me so I'd have to take a day off to get to it. Bloody car dealers!!! it's true what they say you can't trust them at all!

Well for those intersted I got a new car ( they offered my

TBH It's not really worth it. It needed a new clutch and a few other bits of work so it'll be "coming to a breakers yard near you!" got my eye on another one already ( cause I'm fickle like that! ) Incidentally does anyone know if the radio is coded to the car? reason I ask is that I had my own stereo in there ( which I'm going to be retrieving ) and still have the original ford one and I wondered whether it was worth me hanging on to it and possibly ebaying it? but I have a feeling the stereo is encoded to the car.. in which case it's more hassle than it's worth.

Unfortuantely it's looking like the Insurance company are going to write it off do to the low valuation ( parkers only reckon about

A very wet road and a woman stamping on her brakes for no reason ( wasn't even speeding or close either ).... oh yeh and I'll never buy cheap tyres again ( Accelera's... avoid them! )... ended up with my nose UNDERNEATH the bakc end of the megane. French filth 1, Galaxy 0  Sadly it looks like its a write-off :) Trying to persuade my wife to let me spend a bit extra and get an 02 plate Ghia TDi

I have a slightly different problem. Earlier during the year I had to take the wiper mechanism out ( twice in fact ). Since the cold weather has kicked in I've notice the booster heater has failed to start ( resulting in some VERY codl trips to work ). Putting 2 and 2 together I figured I must have disconnected the sensor from the front wiper mechanism, however on inspection I cant see anything resembling it. If anyone can let me know what it looks like I'd be really grateful, thanks. ( 1.9tdi Gia 2000 plate ) ( BTW Looking in the Heinz manual it makes no mention of an air sensor on the windscreen wiper mechanism, so I'm wondering if its different for my model )

Thanks guys. Fortunatley I have a german and swedish just round the corner so I'll pop round there.

Hi Folks I was wondering if anyone can help ( which they usually can here ). My W Plate ( 2000 ) Galaxy TDi Ghia needs new brakes ( pads & discs ) front and rear. This is going to be stupidly expensive if I get the garage to do it ( and Mr Ford is well out of the question ) , and since I'm more than capable of doing the job ( just a bit pushed for time ) I figured I'd do it myself. ( Oh yes I know about the Rewind tool, will be getting one ).... However looking at http://www.brakepartssuperstore.org.uk/con...en-uk/d689.html I'm baffled as to whether I need 1994-2000 brakes or 2000-06 brakes, so if someone can give me an idiots guide on how I can make sure I get the right part ( preferably without taking the brakes apart ) I'd be eternally grateful ( oh the joy of having a car which borders on a model change, grrr ).
