Interior Heating...or Still Lack Of...
GT4THUG replied to GT4THUG's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
trawling thru the archives i find a 114 relay mentioned hidden behind the fuse box, before i start to look how to remove to see and check is there such a relay on this model chris do you know ? as its beginning to get my pip now as there must really be something so simple its daft that has killed my system as everything i replace / check all seems ok cheers again -
hi, i have taken the rear speed resistor pack out and place in front, and no operation have put 12v across the fan, it works use the digital controls to get heat in / out and nothing but cold (ish) air comes in the ambient temp sensor shows from 7 deg to 39 deg depending on teh timeof day but nothing else changes i have little or no air flow thru the vents to which i was told try another control unit, to which today i have one from a breakers and still the same... the setup still will not fire the blower up, as far as i can see all the fuses (drivers side main box i presume are ok) but theres mention of a relay to the fan where is it located and what pins can i bridge to give full power to check if the relay has failed OR have i missed another fuse or setup as well?? haynes is as much use as nowt as not making any sense on the diagrams and the CD i tried to D/L wont ... so i have 2 blowers that wont operate but the fans will rotate on full with 12 volts going thru them, little air flow thru vents and cant hear operation when i press buttons, no heat coming thru but pipes are hot front and back, and it is not a diesel its a petrol 2.3 Ghia X with climate control but nothing is working to fire up the heat, even if i had just full speed it would be a joy in the mornings... so any ideas as this on e really has stumped me now... god knows why they made the simplest of things so complicated! cheers guys

cheers Chris, now then before i buy there seems like 2 types...the one i have has one speed control mainly for the front, but i have seen one with 2 speed controls front and back... is it possible to use either in the setup? or maybe i have had a DIY repair i have inherited that never worked as the wrong item fitted ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-GALAXY-2-8-4X4-...c6#ht_725wt_958 is the one i am thinking of is the correct item... as there is no control for the rear heater (directly) but this item does have unless i am missing something as i dont have a switch for the rear heater on the dash just a hole, when i took dash apart no loom just the hole... that statrted the other what if .... pic is the actual dash and seems to work visually but no motor / cooler thanks again as we must nearly be there and i have ordered the TIC manual... a few headaches less then i hope !

posted earlier with niggles, to which all good info but still not working... i have 96 with digital control of heater, and it does zip... the panel says its making motor work, direction to vents, cabin temp etc etc, but no fan on to blow anything, front or back (rear switch not on dash to force this on so presume both come on together, correct me if i am wrong please) told if i take the speed control out of rear and put in front the fan will work , but after all that it didnt... so i put them back as was and rebuilt when i took apart i took the digi panel out to check the 3 block connecters were on, and they were, and no junction blocks pulled apart. i am now going back to basics, to which haynes is no use, well for my ghia x anyhow, as i would like to know where the power comes in, is then vairied, thru the ballast control and to the fan...ie fuse, loom, relay, anything daft i might of overlooked.. so i can multi meter this to get it all working otherwise i'll just build a peed controller and overide the fan (at loss of air con...and similar circuits i will end up making redundant...) i would prefer not to do this, but as logic doesnt seem to be obvious and a quick mod is this might be the nessesary case as a cold galaxy in winter aint goint to be fun! so any better schematics, fuse, controls i might be missing, relay number etc etc... not asking for much really am i ? ( i know i am really but someone must have a better diagram than haynes / test flow diagram etc ) thanks in advance for help as this one really has got me stumped now Stu!

Few Mk1 Galaxy Ghia X Niggles Req Help
GT4THUG replied to GT4THUG's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Just a thought because of your water getting in/damp problem central locking have you had a look at the fuses very carefully as there are more than one fuse controlling heating/aircon/fans etc Water issue, its coming in form the passenger side as most do, and the black box has been removed temp until i can get teh fan running, but i thought about that and re connected it still the same no go. have just stripped the centre console there is no 'rear heater' switch on this just a hole (presumed it had broke and the look popped back but there is no loom, so a blank is going to be bought for that. the whizzing noise is for the ambient temp sensor, as soon as that turns on the fan moves so fuses and relays or any stupid connections that can fail unless the panel is fault.. as i cant see 2 hedgehogs being faulty ?! any continuity tests that can be done on it ? just back to put it all back together as a bad job as still no heater.. front or back..or do they both have to be connected to work ? (likje put the front speed connector back in the rear to make a full circuit ? going to try that now just in case ...) someone must of stumbled into this can o worms previously and is going to go 'oh! just do.... ' and all wont need thermals!!! Cheers Guys Stu! -

Few Mk1 Galaxy Ghia X Niggles Req Help
GT4THUG replied to GT4THUG's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
No ! The ballast resistor pack is for manual air-con ( dial switch going 1-2-3-4 ) and simply reduces the voltage to the blower by passing it through a different value resistor for each speed setting....except for speed 4 which bypasses the resistors. The Blower Motor Control Unit ( Hedgehog ) is an electronic device which provides a variable voltage to the Blower motor and is in turn controlled by the Automatic Climate Control unit. The Hedgehogs in the front and back of the vehicle are identical. It usually comes in Black or Red (below) although both are identical inside and fit both the Mk1 and Mk2 models. It is a VW unit ( no surprise there then ! ) part no. 1J0-907-521. Expect to pay more at Fords ( they have to make a profit you know ! ). As mentioned check operation by swapping with the rear one first. If it is faulty....check that it is not a dry solder joint ( the unit does come apart...brute force). Plenty available on ebay or breakers yard. will have a look at removing left had back panel and swapping over to see if this resolves 'some' heat into the cabin, then i will see if it is cost effective to re construct it as i have found a place that does ballast repairs for -
Few Mk1 Galaxy Ghia X Niggles Req Help

Most likely the motor speed controller ( hedgehog ! ) has died or burnt out. Its obvious to find behind the glovebox as the blower is plugged into it ( one small torx or phillips screw holds it in ). Plenty for sale on ebay or you could nick the one out your rear heater unit to test.....assuming its working as well. i took this out, and it 'looks' in order i was looking for the balast resistor type and seeing this wasnt sure if it was something to do with the Air conditioning, then presuming it has a different setup as all posts imply the balast and not what seems to be a few power IC's can i use balasts for this or whats the proper trems for it guys as i dare say 'hedgehog' for a ford galaxy ghia x i'll ge ta few funny looks! -
Hi just got a Galaxy for family reasonsand i have inherited a few gremlins too its the Ghia X and has climate control (digital heater etc) and blower fan doing nothing.. i have run 12 v across it and it blows well, but no panel control... where is the usual suspects for this to fail.... as at present i have no heat coming in.. the passenger foot well (after finding the central locking issues and windows being possesed) is peeing wet thru with water and seems to get more when it rains.... is there an issue on the MK1 with this or is my windscreen leaking ? My cruise dont work... but saying that i'm obviously just guessing how to 'set' and make it work... so an idiot you need to do this lol and i will accept being humble.... should be enough to keep me going for a few ticks before i say my rear heater dont work and find any other niggles thanks for any help Stu!
