  1. Engine code is AFN its a 99 model, is it something that can be changed by a DIYer? Big Kev has suggested its at the front of the engine in the middle??
  2. Does any body know where the fuel stop solenoid is on a 110 bhp diesel galaxy?
  3. Did they replace the solenoid or just clean the corrosion off it? I have power loss all the time apart from on the odd occasion when I seem to get lots of power it will then rev up to 3000 rpm and then its like an off switch has been thrown and I lose the power again did your GTD behave in the same way? I have tried replacing all the small vacuum hoses, MAF sensor and cleaned the EGR valve non of thse have resolved the problem. I look forward to hearing from you many thanks for the imput.
  4. Not done a scan yet, but problem does not go away after an engine restart if anything I have no power for 99% of the time and then will occasionally get boost loads of power and then hit 3000 rpm and back to no power again, I can then turn the engine off and back on and still no power? Dont get any warning lights on the dash when this happens and glow plug light does not flash suggesting an engine managment problem? Its a mystery.
  5. Engine is 110 bhp the car is 99. Is the pipe that goes to the ECU the one that runs down the left or right hand side of the bulkhead as you stand at the front of it? Is the ecu behind the instument panel clocks? thanks for your input.
  6. I have been reading loads of threads about loss of power on the TDi's. One of the threads mentioned that he had air bubbles in the clear fuel line I have noticed the same thing on mine and my power loss is also intermittent. I have replaced all the small vacuum hoses to the turbo actuator air filter box boost control solenoid etc. I have also changed my Maf and checked for movement on my actuator arm it moves approx 10 mm can be seen to move when revving the engine and also moves out when switching the engine off so I dont think the turbo control vanes are sticking. Anyway I am going to change the fuel filter and check where possible air leaks could be but how do you purge the air out of filter after replacing it. Any help would be appreciatted!!!

  9. Hi All, Brake problem has been resolved, however I still have a lack of power. So far I have replaced all the small vacuum hoses to everything I have also replaced the Maf but still no good. I do get boost more than I used to but its still not consistent ( I normally get it when I dont need it). When I do get boost the engine will rev to 3000 rpm with lots of pull but then it hits 3000 rpm and its like someone has turned off a switch and I lose power. Something that is different to other threads that I have read is that when other people lose power turning the engine off and then on again resets the power, however this does not happen on my Galaxy. On the front of my engine I have noticed a white filter on the engine breather pipe I think, it looks full off gunk black oil, could this affect boost? Any thoughts would again be appriciated, Westytwo aka clutching at straws / pulling hair out!!!!
  10. I have now replaced all the small bore hoses and still got intermittent boosting. I tried moveing the actuator arm and it does move but not very easy. It only moves about 3-4mm is this about right??
  11. There was actually a split at both ends. One where it attaches to the servo and one the other end where connects to a centre piece where 2 small pipes come off. Do you know how many pipes control the turbo? is it only one and is it difficult to get to? Had a quick look and the turbo seems to be down the back of the engine, is it easier to get to from underneath? If there was a split in the pipe which controls the turbo wouldn't I still be getting a hard brake pedal? I have noticed that alot of people who have power loss seem to be able to turn the engine off and back on and the problem seems to clear, this is not the case on mine also I never have any engine managment lights showing on the dash. Read somewhere that something which controls the turbo vains could be stuck or the vains themselves could be stuck. So many questions so little time!! Once again any thoughts would be appreciated.
  12. Brakes sorted it was a split in the rigid plastic vacuum hose, what a difference a little servo assistance makes!!!! Just gotta sort out the lack of power now it just does not want to rev past 2200 rpm. I give it a run yesterday and had intermitent boost on and off any idea's. Had a passat 1.9 tdi with the same engine in I think. had exactly the same problem and turned out to be the turbo!!! However turbo's are not the cheapest thing to replace. I read on one of the forums that the turbo vain's can get stuck due to soot build up, can this be removed and is it a difficult job? Again any advice would be appreciated>
  13. Hello All, Just bought a 1.9 tdi zetec Galaxy 1999, and on the home whilst braking the brake pedal went really hard and I started to wonder if I was going to have to use the stationary truck in front to stop!!!! I also have a severe lack of power and no pull after about 2000 rpm. Could the 2 problems be linked any advice would be appreciated, Ian
