  1. Thanks for that. It can wait till the new year and a decent day!! Where did you get the donnor sunroof?
  2. Hi all, my electric sunroof has thrown a wobbly. first of all it was open, but wouldn't close. then it jamme with the inner roof cover, which i managed to get out. now i have had to used the emergency winding handle to get the thing shut. But even then, it woul close one sie, but i had to pull the other side down myself. when trying to close it with the switch, it just makes a clicking noise as if it off runners or something? i know its not neeed this time of year, and it is shut, and doesn't seem to be leaking, but is this a diy fix? thanks
  3. cheers guys
  4. Sorry if this topic has been covered before. I over heard a conversation at work with regards engine oil for VW engines. Not sure if its special stuff, but seeing as my Gal has got the VW VR6 lump, do I have to use "special" oil? Anybody know what grade I should be using? Thanks PS; my overheating was the thermostat and its housing, completely shot!!!!!!!!
  5. thanks for the reply. Where can that be done, and how much is likely to be? Have got car running outside now, and even though temp is up to half way on guage, there's still a bit of steam? coming from exhaust.
  6. Have replaced the offending "T" piece, frauds wanted
  7. Evening guys and girls. This morning on my way to work, the old temp guage of the old Gal got into the red. Pulled over and the plastic "T" piece at the back of the engine, looks like it joins a couple of pipes, one of which goes to the cabin heater, was leaking some steam. Took the cap off at work and lost a load of water. Filled up before leaving this evening and the same again happened. Once at home I had a quick look and the same plastic "T" piece was steaming again, when I touched it, the pipe broke. Could this be the cause of the overheating, or as a result? Have done a search on the subject, and am going to try the thermostat as peeps reckon its the cheeper option for replacement, plus the water pump isn't making any noise.
  8. Do you put the resin just on the crack, or all over the coil pack?
  9. My rear wiper started behaving oddly yesterday, is wasn't parking in the normal position. I checked to ensure it was tight, and that was ok. This morning, when I started the car, the wiper was just going for it non stop, without me touching the stalk. This happened for around 8 miles, then stopped. When I was making the return journey, the same happened. Any ideas?
  10. Mine just cost me
  11. Hi, Does anyone have a pic of the fuse/relay box under the bonnet of a 2.8V6? Had a look under there earlier and it seems like I've got half a relay missing!!!! How you may ask.......... In a space for a relay with four terminals, I have a piece of metal wedged in connecting just the two!!!! Thanks
  12. Am on the case now mate!!! Might get the argos catalogue out as well and do some moddin'!!! check out the Max Power induction kit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Very nice!!! Anybody any ideas about the VW site where I might find one? Did a google search for VW stuff and E38 and all I got was camper vans and BMW's!!
  14. where can I get one and how much??
  15. Does that mean I can get a VR6 cover to replace the CD6??
  16. I have the reverse problem. I cant get my bonnet stay closed. Have tried adjusting the two bolts that hold the locking mech, but still I can just lift the bonnet up!!!
  17. The oil warning lights are a waste of time. We found with race engines, we up the oil pressure to run at 90psi, and have the light come on when it drops below 40. On a road car, the oil warning light comes on when the pressure is stupidly low and damage could already have been done. Sorry to hear about your engine, and I hope the repair isn't too costly.
  18. I did one of mine not that long ago, just undo the nut, then tap the track control arm with a hammer, the ball joint should come out. If you decide to buy a propper spliter, buy a scissor type.
  19. My passenger door lock just spins round, I'm assuming because it's had another lock fitted in it's life. Drivers door lock doesn't move at all. Can't deactivate central locking from boot lock, so I have to unlock the boot, clamber through, unlock the drivers side rear door, jump back out, open that door and reach through to unlock drivers door. What a cuffuffle!!!!!
  20. Hi all, I recently left an interior light on in the gal, and upon returning to her 2 days latter found the battery dead. Jump started her and took her round the block to give some charge. When I went to lock the car (Non remote) the lock seemed much easier than usual, but didn't lock the car. Now the lock won't move at all and I feel a bit of a tool having to unlock the boot and clamber through. Any advice on how to fix? Also, ever since getting a jump start, the drivers airbag warning light has stayed on, a guy I know who used to work for VW has said it was caused by incorrectly jump starting, any advice?? Ta
  21. will remove the bars tomorrow and report back. Having just fitted a rear arb to the back of a classic mini, I'm sure the arb should have a degree of side to side movement to allow for cornering and suspension travel, but my gal's front arb seems to meve quite a bit. quote Mussey1 "I thought that my car was dangerous to drive because the noise was so bad!!!" That's exactly how mine sounds at the mo, annoying as hell. Plus I was worried as I had to drive from Oxford to Birmingham on Thurs and Fri and was reluctant to do it in the Gal just incase I left half of her on the M40!! She made the trips though!!!
  22. If your VR6 is anything like mine mate, you really don't want to see what MPG you're doing!!
  23. A quick update gents. Just been out in the gal quickly and decided to have a tug on the arb links, now I can't feel any play in the link rod itself, however, when having a good firm tug (ooh er) the arb moves. Am I correct in thinking that the arb bushes are gone? Please don't scare me with any more of you multi thousand pound remedies!!!
  24. Am going to try and have a good look at it all either later today or tomorrow. The knocking noise happens over the slightest of imperfections on the road. But the reason why I suspect the rack is that with the engine OFF, when you move the steering wheel left - to - right and hold onto the track rod, a vibration can be felt. Has anybody ever changed a rack? Are all petrol galaxy racks the same as I've been offered a rack from a 97 2.0l petrol, will it fit a 96 2.8V6?
  25. Am going to try and have a good look on Sat. In the worst case, rack being caput, what sort of cost am I looking at for a replacement, and has anyone fitted one?
