  1. Now THAT'S a comment to open a can of worms!! B)
  2. I drove an R reg 2.3 Galaxy for quite a while and it was fine. It pulled well, had enough torque (not the punch of a good TDi, though it revved better), but only did 26 mpg. For me that's the point-my 115 bhp TDi pulls as well if not better but does 38-43 mpg! Andrew
  3. Thanks George, you're a star! :angry2: Andrew
  4. To get the most out of the diesels make sure you give the turbo about 20 to 30 seconds to slow down when you stop before you switch the engine off. This is why many modern turbo diesels are breaking: people run them, then switch them off before the turbo gets a chance to slow down. The turbo is still spinning fast when the engine is switched off and the oil is stopped from cooling/lubricating the bearings. It adds up over many miles. I agree with getting the 1.8 diesel if you are doing short journeys. The 2.0 litre just isn't worth the extra power. Andrew ;)
  5. Hello everyone. As there is no Haynes manual; for the facelifted Galaxy (post 2000; and I don't know of an alternative) could anyone tell me where in the engine bay the engine temperature sensor is please? I think mine is a bit dicky but I don't know what to test/look at to see if I'm right! I've had the coolant changed by a garage using some special kit from VW to remove any air-locks (my first thought) after a hose split and the radiator refused to warm up, so I think I've eliminated that potential problem, but my temp., gauge still wibbles about and them stays on 50oC. It drives well, not overheating and the radiator now gets warm (so it's cooling) but the gauge not working gives me the willies-alloy heads and warping plus the bill you get afterwards is scary. Any other information about potential cooling problems from you guys would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch. Andrew. (First post!) PS I have a 2000 X reg TDi PD 115 Galaxy and it's great otherwise. Could do with more GO but that's an aside! PPS Please don't get too technical: while I'm not an idiot I'm not someone who has his own laptop with VAGCOM on it lol. ;)
