  1. on the temp guage issue - see FAQ 's 49 &56 = replace coolant temp sensor
  2. Had the same issue on my 2001 tdi - intermittent flashing temp warning light , turned out to be loose connector plug on the expansion tank coolant low level sensor. Reseated and fine since. Don't think the temperature sensor is the issue as when this goes it usually causes idle speed to fluctuate as it screws up the ecu fuel air mixture commands . The overheating issue maybe just a coincidence - head gasket failure pending!!
  3. could also be driveshaft releated if wobble is worse under acceleration, do a search wrt CV joint , intermediate shaft problems
  4. 4.5L - assuming filter is changed
  5. The A/C wont kick in if ambient temp is below 5 deg C - at least thats the case with my MK2. Suggest wait until weather improves a bit and try again. The AC light will still illuminate.
  6. HI - Be careful - The correct glow plug for the D5WZ heater is from BERU P/N 0100 226340. Got mine from these guys http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=54 : after trying other "equivalents" from Bosch and others - none of which fitted.
  7. Thanks for the info Goofygolfer.. will stick to the 288mm then
  8. Hi All, Ordered Mintex front discs and pads for my Galaxy Mk2 TDI 90 - confident that I measured a diameter of 300mm on the originals. When swaping out today discovered they are the 288mm diameter !! <_< . Before I exchange, was wondering has anyone upgraded to the larger discs?? Do you only have to exchage the caliper mounting bracket or is a whole new caliper assy required. Car is fitted with 195/65/15 standard tyres. The old advise - " measure twice cut once " applies Thanks !!
  9. Faulty brake light switch maybe ??
  10. Do you have this sorted now and if so what was it? I have the same problem, but have recently moved abroad so need to try and source parts from the UK but am having trouble translating what the problem is to get the right parts! Have had all the wheels aligned & balanced and some sort of rubber boot thing replaced (not sure what that is either) but this is not the tyres as it stops as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator. G Have the same problem - have already replaced the N/S half shaft completely as the inner gaiter was split and the joint was knackered - had to spray the joint with lube to stop the car shaking itself apart until I got the shaft. Now there is still a wobble - most noticeable when accelerating from 10mph in second gear but is ok otherwise. OS/f shaft joint gaiters are intact but I susupect may need to be regreased after 100k miles?? - That is my next attempt to fix anyhow.
  11. Thanks, found it - doesn't seem to be switching from what i can tell just by holding and listening.. - will check voltage to it tomorrow.
  12. Hi I have a '01 MK2 Gal LX 6 sp with 90 hp ANU engine. - 95k miles. Since yesterday the engine seems to want to run on after i turn off the ignition and dies with a shudder that shakes the whole car. Runs fine otherwise and idle speed is steady at approx 800rpm. Any ideas ?? is their a fuel shut off solenoid or other device to kill the engine on swithch off.?? PS - Fantastic site , has helped me loads with usual faults - Maf, Temp Sensor , Aux heater, Aux water pump, Blower fan resistor pack, drop links etc etc . Still great cars though!!
  13. Hi All, Having ran Mk 1& 2 TDI's and up to last May a Mk3 Ghia tdci, I have taken the plunge and registered. Currently running a MK 2 TDI 90 with 80k miles. Great car up to last 6 months with just usual Maf/ drop links prob , but now in injury time. Current issues needing tlc are front wheel bearing, suspect alternator pulley/ tensioner issue and waiting on Fords third attempt to change aircon pipe. Have done all standard servicing myself to date and intend to go back to my youth and tackle more complex jobs . Look forward to trawling through the fanatastic information here and giving my tuppence worth.!
