  1. Ive read on another forum that has 33 pages of discussion on this. Apparently VAG have released about 6 updates of gear oil in as many years to cure these problems. Apparantly 75w90 is too thick and you need a GL4 gear oil. I need to fix this problem ASAP but am toiling whether to use the updated gearbox oil from volkswagon pn G052171a2 or use something like Redline MTL supposidly designed to address the crunching gear problem (NOT redline MT-its thicker). Has anyone else remedied their problem using addatives/oil change? Some say it could take 5000 miles to take effect too?

  3. You need to take of and clean the air intake and inside of egr (same job really). I had the same problem but mine was so gunged up that I could barely feel the turbi kick in and taking off in first gear up a hill was a joke. Now that is all restored after the much needed clean that every tdi needs at 100k at most. I am surprised that not many people have done it or even suggested it on this forum but its a must on just about every other tdi forum whether you have problems or not. After the clean , you might want to think about disconnecting the egr valve and/or modifing the CCV (crank case ventilation) so that oil doesnt enter your air intake in the first place.
  4. You really need to get the car scanned for codes. Better still, buy a cable from ebay for about a tenner. Any kkl cable should do. Im still trying to sort my limp mode problem. Cleaned my air intake 2 weeks ago and what a B"
  5. Is this vac pipe to the ecu just for the non-pd tdi's or do the 2000 on Pd-Tdi's have them too? I have a 2002 115bhp Sharan Pd-Tdi and when I accelerate at about over 3000 revs I can also hear a hissing from the dashboard area, seems like it comes from behind the glovebox area. I am getting the same limp mode problems after pushing the car especially uphill.
  6. Naa. The crude rubber flap is supposed to stop anything, mainly leaves getting from the bottom/outside of car and up to the engine bay/bulkhead. Its useless and only is successfull in stopping any stuck leaves getting out rather than stoping them go in.
  7. munter's cable should work ok. Remember folks to check that the com port VAGcom software is set to is the same as the com port Windows (XP works better) sets up for the cable. Also if you installed the drivers that came with the cable and it didn't work, you need to uninstall wrong drivers first then use the drivers Jayton pointed out at http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE VCP DRIVERS ONLY.
  8. Battery voltage when engine is off is low at 10.6v but more importantly is the voltage when the car is started. Should be at least 13.5V to about 15v is ok. 12v is definitely too low for a running car. Looks like either you alternator is not charging properly or the faulty/weak battery creating a large load on the alternator and is pulling the voltage down too much. Dont know engine you have but my tdi starts (eventually) even though the starter is turning over vvveeeerrry sssllooowwwlllyy. These engines are really good for starting even though my battery is well knackerd (actually using a clio battery at the moment). On the other side, 2.6v is too low and looks like a wiring problem or relay problem. I would start with the relay. Take it out and plug it back in again. If not solved, you can carefully open up the cove to the relay and inspect o clean the contacts very carefully.
  9. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage at the bulb when it is dull and also when you say its bright. For what its worth, a new bulb will be 75p anyway so might as well buy a new one. Also is your battery the same old one. When the alternator went, did you let the battery die down? When batteries are discharged they dont usually go to there full capacity when charged up again, especially if they are a few years old.
  10. BUMP dewsy. Did you ever get to the root of the problem. I have a tdi 115 pd and have the exact same problem. Gets into limp mode ie not over 60mph when you try to rev the car in 3rd gear like when entering a motorway. I am going to take the air intake and egr off to give a good clean when the weather gets a bit better. Just hope it is that and not the turbo actuator or vanes. Any tips on taking off the air intake and egr? Is it easier from the top or under the car?
  11. My stereo was also locked to one station and no buttons would work on the stereo. Turned out that the rds button was stuck in and locking the radio from responding to anything. Check all the buttons push in and out freely. I fixed mine by banging on the front face of the unit with something solid like the locking key for the alloy wheel nuts. ^_^
