I got a TomTom Go,as said above, cant fault it, although will be better when map databse is updated (within next month or so). TT are bringing out a new range of GOs, so the existing Classic should be available at discount. Highly recommended.

Sounds about right for decent tyres for a Gal.They are slightly dearer than conventional tyres cos they are reinforced. If you arent happy with the opinion, take your Gal to another mech and ask for his opinion. I must admit 5 yrs is a bit young for brake pipe problems IMHO. Good luck

20k Service And Oil Issues
neilb replied to GalMan's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
Im confused now......... :( What oil should be used in my alhambra plse? Its a 1.9TDi SE 2001. Should it be some of this semi synthetic stuff?? Also, there is a VW dealer on my doorstep, my nearest SEAT dealer 20 miles away. Would there be any problem in asking VW to do my services?? Ive already clarified that it would not affect my 24 month warranty. -
I get this effect on my Ally. Its perfectly normal. As GSM says, its the PAS pump compensating for the load put on it by you turning the wheel...........

does a ABS light come on when you turn the ignition (but before engine fires??)

neilb replied to neilb's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
vr6 how do I get the tailgate internal trim off?? Also, I can get hold of a new cluster for a Sharan easier than from my SEAT dealer. Are they the same, they look it. The VW bloke told me that they are NOT compatible, but I cant see why? -
matt r u sure its the door??? Is it the door itself or the card or any other part of the trim.?? If so, usual treatment of wd40 or teflon spray on all hinges and lock mechs/ plastic parts..

I cant recall what they are called or what site i saw them on, but i am aware of some kind of canvas cover that goes over each wheel instead of chains. Supposed to grip in snow/ice very well. See if I can find site. Edit - Found it, they are called AutoSocks - go to:http://www.roofbox.co.uk/snowhome.html and scroll down to AutoSocks

The near side rear light cluster on my Ally has got water in it.Looks like a fishbowl. Its the cluster on the tailgate, not the pillar itself. Are these easy to change. If so, any step by step help would be nice.

Wierd Central Locking Fault
neilb replied to Philwalfc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The actual clock. I am refering to an Alhambra tho, so it is different I think. For some reason the power backp to the clock failed due to this loose lead. Sorry cant be much more help. It might be worth getting access to the relevant door mechanisms/levers etc and give them a lube. -
Fixed problem at last. There was a wire adrift from the loom at the back of a newly fitted CD player. It seems to need a constant 12v. So I gave it some and things are fine now. Thanks for all suggestions. HNY

Does anything else fail to work? Does your clock work? I had this problem (but it was the drivers door) , and my clock and voltmeter (in the dash) went. It turned out to be a wire loose from the rear of the newly installed cd radio. -
Ive checked all fuses, they seem fine. However, I have noticed the Voltmeter does not move after startup (ie stays at 8v). Shouldnt this be about 12-15v???? However the vehicle starts OK Would a flatish battery cause these problems???

Very helpful, thanks for taking btime to share your info...will give it a look later this morning. MC and HNY

I have a SEAT Ally TDi SE. Pleeeeeeeese help me, Im going insane. When I press the "lock" button on my fob, all doors lock except the drivers door. If I open the door, the alarm goes off. (Expected) If press the "unlock" button on the fob, all doors unlock, except the drivers door which then locks!!!! I have to reach in behind thru the rear door to open the drivers door from inside!!!!!! This is madness. What have I done!!?? Ive read about turning keys twice etc, but the manual isnt clear. I just want to get back to good old "lock" and "unlock"....but to all doors. Also, my digital clock resets to 0:00 when I turn ignition off. Any ideas? Thanks guys Neil

Stering Wheel Controls
neilb replied to mawashi77's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
LOL...my "what" was not meant to be a hint at his poor English. Its not poor anyway!!. It was more of a indication of my lack of understanding from a technical viewpoint. I meant to say "Blimey, that sounds too techy for me". Sorry if I offend...... -

Help Plse With Seat Head Unit
neilb replied to neilb's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
many thanks, will give it a look............... -
Hi. I have just bought a 2001 Alhambra 1.9TDi SE. It has (believe it or not!!) only a Radio Cassette head unit. My Qs are: Is it a Grundig Scala? If not, what is it? Also, I wish to upgrade/install a CD autochanger. Any suggestions on the best way to do this. Should I buy a new head unit altogether or can I run an autochanger from the existing one. Any recommendations on make? Thanks in advance for any help that is available.
