  1. yeah try disconnecting it, you may have a surprise! reckon ours has been gone since we had the car! 2 yrs!
  2. i was toying with getting the tv version, shame they don't do a tv version with a touch screen  i can see next months car allowance getting stung for all sorts of odds and ends...
  3. i run a laptop with a usb GPS mouse, I use Via Michelin software but am thinking of moving to infomap (so gatso's and stuff can be added). Autoroute 2005 works ok but doesn't have voice, it's just like a map that shows where you are and which way you are pointing and a line to follow, i've got a file with the entire caravan club and camping and caravaning club site lists which is handy! Route 66 I didn't get on with at all. The via michelin software is very good and does rotate to match direction, it's 3d also so what you see on the screen you see on the road (like tomtom but on a 14" screen!), the 2 problems with the michelin software are the inability to set way points or stops in the journey, and it doesn't have the m6 toll road on! total cost of converting my laptop to navigation?
  4. I do my own servicing, oil changes, air +oil filter changes every 5000 miles, major services and cambelt done by a friend as a foreigner... don't have to remove it :D
  5. i'll be doing it the old fashoned way at the next fill up...
  6. GSF supply both geniune bosch (68+vat + 25 exchange) or pattern for 37.50 +vat ordered one yesterday.
  7. Just fitted my
  8. probably, but won't be worth it, had my focus reloaded at a ford dealer and it made a huge difference though (at was stalling at roundabouts...)
  9. towed like a dream, hills a minor issue but nothing a chipping wouldn't cure. :)
  10. we've bought the sunstar today.. thanks for all the help.. :(
  11. I take the headrests of the back row, push the middle row right forward, fold the rears, then push the middle row back and throw the rear headrests in the garage, don't generally go down then...
  12. going to look at a abi sunstar 4 on sunday... thanks guys...
  13. I think i will be fine on tow weight, ie within the 85% the recommended (dads a member of the cc, but thanks for the offer :() it's just the practicality of towing 1200 or so KG with a 90bhp/150lbsft Sharan that in it's self weighs about 1800kg! i've towed a 1000kg caravan behind a 1.8 focus, i've pulled huge car transporter trailers with twin axles (and vw beetles on them!) behind focus and a bmw 525i with no problems with accell or keeping up with traffic (more a point of keeping the speed down!)... I guess i need to borrow mum and dads caravan and take it for a spin...
  14. Anyone out there tow a 4-5 berth caravan with a 90nag Sharan/Galaxy? thinking of buying but am concerned as to the sharan only being a low power engine, thinking hills around snowdonia may be a problem? Is it worth getting it chipped (not the box, proper chipping) cheers alll!
  15. this helps me with my beetle, the regs only apply post 1978.. thnx
  16. er no. that would probably hint that it hasn't! but the fact that i couldn't get the wheels to lock even when trying would hint that i can cope without  and it's the wifes car anyway
  17. Right, i've got a 2000 sharan tdi, beleive it to be a base spec one (cloth seats, not captains, 7 seater), do they all come with ABS as standard? I've not bean able to brake hard enough to test the easy way even on a muddy road it just stopped! i'm sure i read somewhere that they did buy am not convinced!
  18. not had to add any except oil change in 9000 miles...
  19. SHaran owners manual says 5 and 75 degress not 10 and 75 degrees...
  20. is that an easy job?
  21. you've got a garage that'll fit a galaxy in? must have a butler who could get up and warm it up 30mins before you need it
  22. I've played around with tyre pressures at the light end of the car weight range (a beach buggy with some really abnormal tyres sizes!!!) and found that if you put air in so that at the bottom of the wheel there is about 5mm deflection in the side that was generally about right, on the buggy that theory worked for... 155/15 (fr 16psi) 195/55 15 (14psi ish) 215/75 15 (fr 12psi) 31x10.5 x 15 (bk 18psi) i'd go along with the steering weight as a guide, this worked on an old camper we had too, steering getting heavy, put some air in...
  23. did we get a consensus on this, my mechanic has just mentioned that he thinks my servo maybe on the way out? should it hold firm if you rev it a bit? how much was a new servo (parts) and where is the best place to get them (ECP and GSF dont do them....) 99/00 vw sharan 1.9tdi 53k miles.....7k to cambelt...
  24. off topic... went into halfords for a motorbike number plate, guy asked if i just wanted the back one or the front as well  his collegue asked if i wanted some spark plugs for a diesel as well or a radiator for a real beetle and slapped him round the back of the head:)
