  1. Just bought my second Galaxy as the old one was getting a bit tired after 200k miles. The new one is a 2005 2.3 auto with 55k miles and very nice it is too but just noticed the driver's door doesn't lock either with the remote or key. All the other doors lock/unlock OK. Any ideas before I dismantle the door?
  2. New lambda sensor seems to have fixed it. I've got a new IAT sensor coming which should fix that error message and will strip and clean the EGR sensor which should clear that one. All ready for the MOT next month.
  3. Thanks for the advise Brian. A few thing there to look at.
  4. Plugged in a fault code reader and got the following: P0113 Intake Air Temperature P1413 Secondary Air Injection System P0132 O2 Sensor P1405 Exhaust Gas Recirc P1131 MAF? P1132 MAF? Cleared codes and went for a drive and got the following P0113 Intake Air Temperature P1413 Secondary Air Injection System Would either of these cause the problem or is it and intermittent with the MAF/lambda? Secondary Air Injection System Read more: https://www.autocodes.com/p1413.html
  5. 1996 Galaxy 2.0i 195k miles. For the last couple of weeks it's been suffering from an intermittent loss of power then comes back on song and seems to go better than ever. In the last couple of days the loss of power has got worse such that it feels like it's going to cut out completely popping in the exhaust but again picks up and is ok. Recently it had a new front pipe and cat but other than that nothing has changed. I would really like to get it to 250k miles. Any ideas?
  6. Juddering through the steering wheel when braking at 60+mph. Pads and discs look ok and not warped but there is what looks like a lot of play at the inner end of the track rod arm where it connects to the rack. Is this adjustable, repairable or is it a new rack?
  7. Have you tried adjusting the 'broken' one. The plunger has a ratchet to adjust the position it switches at.
  8. It was the pump. Thanks for all the advice. :D
  9. Ok, so I've changed the oil in the PAS and noise changed but is still there but now I've got vibration through the steering wheel too. I purged the system exactly as described in the Haynes manual so there shouldn't be any air trapped. I've ordered a new pump from Eurocarparts for
  10. Ok, so I've spent the afternoon on the Galaxy and have ruled out the following: alternator pulley drive belt drive belt tensioner top swivels drop links With the engine running and the undertray removed, if the the steering is put under load the noise seems to be coming from the PAS pump. There is a very harsh vibration coming from it that I can feel in the in the steel pipe leading to the steering rack. Is there anything inside the pump like a pressure relief valve or bypass that could make this noise? Is the pump rebuildable or should I just swap it out for a new one and hope for the best?
  11. Got a quote from a Ford garage yesterday. Steering rack
  12. That's exactly the same as mine. Be sure to post what cures yours.
  13. I don't think so but what would that indicate? Cheers Neil
  14. Yes, parking speeds = low speed or stationary and yes, turning the steering wheel = putting the steering sytem under load.
  15. I'd read that the alternator pulley can make a noise at low speed but the symptoms don't seem to match mine as mine is at parking speeds and only when the power sterring is under load.
  16. I thought it was the drive belt too and replaced that and made the tensioner work smootly as it was a bit dry but neither made any difference. Is the power steering pump and rack rebuildable or is it time buy a new one. If it is which one first?
  17. Hi Mirez, I should have mentioned it doesn't make any noise when the engines not running so probably not ball joints. It only seems to do it when the the power steering pump is under load. I don't have to be acually moving the steering wheel just putting load on it seems to make the noise. Cheers, Neil
  18. Ok, so I've changed the drive belt, free'd off the tensioner and sprayed WD40 of the belt and it still makes the same noise when I turn the steering when stationary or at low speed. I now suspect the power steering pump or the steering rack. Both will be expensive so I don't want to replace them without beeing sure it's that. Any clues? Cheers, Neil
  19. The steering has started to creak loudly on my '96 Galaxy 2.0 petrol. It only does it at parking speeds and is fine when driving normally. I suspect the drive belt as the noise is coming from that side of the engine but I haven't been able to change it yet as nobody that is open on a Sunday has got one. I've read that if the undertray is missing it can cause the belt to slip when wet but mine in place. Any thoughts? Cheers, Neil
  20. The LH low beam and side light on my N reg 2.0l petrol Galaxy have stopped working. The LH main beam and the RH are working ok. The bulbs, fuses and connectors all look ok. The Haynes wiring diagram shows a transister in parallel with one of the bulbs. Could it be something to do with this? Cheers, Neil
  21. Fuel consumption is about average at 23mpg, tick-over is very smooth and it uses almost no oil between changes. One thing I have wondered but not been able to check is whether the rear silencer is blocked after the cat converter disintergrated. Another ne which crops up quite regularly is a faulty throttle position sensor. Can these be checked?
  22. I hadn't considered the injectors or the cam chain. Is it really possible that the cam chain have jumped a tooth? It seems a bit unlikely.
  23. We've had a 2.0GLX petrol Galaxy for about 2 years a 25k miles and still can't believe the performance can be this bad from a modern car. I've done the obvious by replacing the MAF sensor, new cat when that disintergrated, full service etc but it still feels as though only the first half throttle does anything. I'd measure the top gear 50-70mph time for comparison but I don't think it would do it without changing down a gear or two. Is it really supposed to be like this?
  24. My 1994 2.0 GLX is going to need a rear silencer soon and I was wondering if it was possible to get a a less restrictive replacement. I've had a search on here and on the net and can't find anything. Anyone know where I can get one? Cheers, Neil
  25. Job done. Thanks
