  1. I have a 97 Galaxy and was faffing around with the brake light switch (as you do) when I noticed the footwell courtesy light had come undone from its housing. Went to plug it back it and CLICK the light went off and I assumed I'd blown the bulb. Checked bulb (which is fine) and have now noticed all my interior lights don't work. As far as I can I can tell all other equipment works. The Manual says its fuse 21 BUT I don't have a fuse in position 21! Have tested most of the others and they seem fine. The diagram stuck below the fuse panel also seems completely at odds with the manual. Does anyone know which fuse it should be, or whether it is a fuse? Thanks in advance John
  2. Found it, and discovered that pumping the brake pedal half a dozen times made it work again! Been fine now since Sunday, so must of been a loose connection (famous last words!). If it fails permanently I may well get Fraud to fit it, though I expect they'll charge the earth...
  3. Got the same problem (brake light warning on), its happened a few times and today it just stays on. Where is the brake light switch located? I'd like to have a try before it goes to garage...
  4. Cheers Ivor, Had some pipe weld in the garage but that was rubbish. Gone for some rapid clear epoxy instead and used a bit on the metal base too! Its a funny piece that has a plastic pin that acts as a guide/strengthener to affix it to the metal chassis. I'm hoping that the pin takes a lot of the 'pull' that the cartridge makes. Still, if it doesn't work I'll just try something stronger!!! The next step is fixing it into the compartment. Has anyone any experience of whats needed to do that? I can see where the cable goes into the bin but I don't have any mounts? Halfords?
  5. Ok, Took unit to bits and discovered that there is a piece of black plastic that slides to one side as you insert the cartridge and when you release it slides back and holds the cartridge captive. I have mnageed to split this in two with one part still held in place with a screw, the other had fallen into the unit. Any ideas where I may get a replacement bit? If I glue it back together (ha ha) any recommendations for the best type of glue? cheers
  6. Just picked up a second hand Ford cd changer and attached it to the lead at the rear luggage compartment. Turned radio on (its a 2007r) and pressed the cd button. LCD said 'CD on' then went trhough disc 1, Disc 2 etc.. and finally came up with NO DISCS. (so far so good) Went to cd player and pressed eject and cartridge popped out. Put 6 cds into cartridge and tried to push cartridge in but no matter what I do, it doesn't lock into place. Any ideas? Thanks in advance John
  7. Will check manual just in case, as I'm pretty certain that all the the wires were intact after I'd bodged up all the split wires with the insulating tape. I don't want to muck around with the wires again as the car goes in for its MOT retest on Thursday and knowing my luck I'll b*gger it up...
  8. Good idea Is there any slack on this cable that I don't know about (don't want to make things worse yet)? How easy is it to get the interior cover off the boot so I can check I haven't pulled things too far?
  9. Hi, Galaxy (97R) failed MOT today due to upper brake light not working. Garage wanted

  12. Ooops, not been reading my thread! How come the dealer have quoted me so much? Should I argue or take it elsewhere? Will I get a better quote? Too many questions, sorry thanks John

  14. Hi newbie here, I don't know if this a coincidence but the ABS warning light now stays on since we had cracked windscreen replaced (by autoglass). Seems like one of those daft 'the horn stopped working when the tyre went flat' things but could anything of been dislodged? Any thoughts before I take it off to the fraud dealer... thanks in advance John
