Coming back to this one there's a couple more things... 1 check there's nothing in the way of the rear door seals...I mean for example the boots at the top can come out of their seating and foul the seal, but you don't notice it at first. 2 check that the grommets are still in place inside the floor of the boot there are lots of them...including between the skins of the side panels. There is an air ventilator in the offside. Is it still in place or has it dropped out?

We've been going to the same garage for about 12 years now...I trust them implicitly and they are right in the middle of nowhere...I'm not ashamed to plug them :D Frampton Garage, Frampton, Dorset. Family firm, utterly trustworthy...first class service. Do you know, they did a rush job on our camping trailer last year when I lowered it to the floor in our garage ready for packing for our holiday, only to realise that one wheel bearing was completely shot. B) Within hours it was done, and we caught the ferry to France THAT EVENING!!!!! :) WOW now THAT'S service!!!! Thanks to Rodney Thorne at Frampton!!!!!! :D

Could be a disconnected tailgate washer tube....I believe this has been covered somewhere before. :)

That's right mo4, maybe we ought to start a register of some kind...good ones and ones to avoid like the plague...PEOPLE POWER!!!!!! :) B)

Brakes...yep, you definitely want some.....so does VR6. btw, I'm feeling frustrated because for the last couple of days I've not been able to see VR6's avatars...is my isp filtering them? Is this happening to anyone else?

T120 I pays to be a little elastic especially when peering down inside the offside skin to find my grommets mentioned above...use a wander light to shine up through as detailed. On your back under the car, mine has a towbar so the foil sensor has to be well clear of that. (the size would depend on the make of towbar). Is it tricky? Yes, if I'm honest, but I was determined not to take the bumper off, so I cleaned the inside of it in situ with meths on tissues. Connecting feed wires (using those proprietary blue clicky connectors) is definitely easier with the multi-connector unclipped and pulled apart. If you need a photo for any of this...I will oblige.

I have a strange noise too...it's the kids' walkmans in the back.....tsss..tssss..tssss..tssss.. <_<

Just done the same job... Don't know what year yours is, mine's 99, and the best place to make joints in the wiring is the driver's side: reason? there's a plug and socket (connector) in the wiring just below the lights. You will find it slid onto the metal work with a friction clip. It's easier to pull the connector off the metal and then undo the 2 halves to get the blue snappy connector things around the wires. OK, the colours on mine were: Switched Feed for Rev Lights: Black and red going into the connector ---> Black and blue going out of the connector. Earthing point is nearby straight to bodywork with a nut and bolt. You will also find a blank grommet, (ie one without a hole.....make a hole in it!) if you crane your neck and peer vertically down inside the skin of the vehicle rear offside quarter...Does that make sense?....if not I'll see about a digital photo for you. Now crawl under the vehicle, and on the offside rigtht about where you were with the connector there is another blind grommet. Here's the good thing...the two grommets are virtually one above the other, so get a wander light and shine it up through the holes. You should be able to see the light when you're back inside the boot peering down!!! Do this and you won't have to drill any holes!! :( Pop

Ah!! well done that man... a picture is worth a thousand words! Pop

Does anyone know a better way of prising the mirror glasses out? Mine seem to be largely inneffectual. Haynes says use a rusty garden spade and a large doormat....there must be a better way? Can I get at the mirror from behind, as it were, by taking off the plastic cowl? ...how? anyone done it? Regards Pop

A friend who runs a VW T4 transporter uses a Fiamma rear mouted one...he's very pleased. ;) They also do them for Sharans (and other vehicles) Aluminium, lightweight and they look good. Go to Fiamma PopDorset

Thanks, vr6galaxy, and SharanTDICarat, I followed up those links and also found these... http://home.swipnet.se/mixonelektronik/pro...productlist.htm ...then scroll down. That one seems particularly promising...it's a Swedish company and I guess they have a lot of experience in this. I also found this for US drivers... http://www.sav-a-life.com/Drl_intro.htm

Does anyone have any knowledge of how to enable continental style, automatic daytime permanent dipped headlight illumination?...I guess it must be possible somehow...Italy is the latest country to introduce this law. It's now in many countries across the EU and many drivers now voluntarily switch on in countries where it's not yet in force. Even buses do it. It has to come to the UK eventually! My vehicle is a British spec Mk1 1.9 tdi Sport.

I had a VW air-cooled van in the 70's with this...it turned out to be the voltage regulator on the alternator. I don't know where it's mounted these days though. Lucas used to be able to check this sort of thing for you...worth a try?
