  1. Are the plugs round, square or oblong? What colour are they? Can you post an image of the connectors on the CD player?
  2. I purchased my Galaxy 2.0 GLX Auto 7-seater in June 1998, when it was only two years old, with 27,000 on the clock. Unfortunately, this model didn't have air-con as standard! Lots of reasons for buying the petrol automatic (AG4-type transmission) as the diesel auto wasn't available: - Access -- the height of the Galaxy was just right for getting in & out as I recovered from lower back surgery; - The swivel seat was a great aid in times of extra pain; - Left leg sciatica meant the auto was ideal; - The only way to take all five kids to visit their grandparents. It hasn't all been a smooth ride, although at just under 82,000 genuine miles, the car still drives like almost new. Tales of Woe: - Auto gearbox had to be rebuilt at 37,000 miles; - Torque converter - New auto gearbox fitted at 55,000 miles; - New radiator at 55,000 miles; - Replacement glass sunroof at 55,000 miles; - Other niggly bits & pieces. - I totally gave up on trying to get the seat trim to stay in one place. With the kids all grown up and not wishing to accompany the parents, the Galaxy has to go. ------------------------ MOT until mid-September 2012, Road Tax expires May 2012 (SORN declaration thereafter). Needs brake pads all round. Although the Galaxy is a runner in good condition, and should have no problem getting through the next MOT it could be used as a donor-vehicle for the Type-AG4 auto gearbox, 2.0 engine (no timing belt to renew), well cared for interior and other bits & bobs. Also have a set of five (extra) alloy wheels: and four original steel wheels. In its place comes a 55-plate VW Phaeton 3.0TDi 4Motion that feels and drives like a lazy Bentley Continental.
  3. Does anyone know if the AG4 auto gearbox was used on the Mk2 Galaxy or was this only used on Mk1. Also appreciate it if anyone can provide a likely price for one that was supplied by Ford dealer and has now covered 25K miles. Thanks in advance.
  4. How did the garage in Forest Gate work out for you? I had to replace my auto box a while back and I paid (a garage near Haethrow) with Credit Card and two weeks later, no gearbox. Got my money back from the CC company and instead paid
  5. The 1996 2.0 Petrol Auto has a VAG Type-AG4 auto transmission (which is also used on the caravelle and other VAG cars/micro bus/vans).
  6. On my 2.0GLX Auto (AG4 transmission) there is a relay under the bonnet for the auto box -- I know that it affects the limp-home function to avoid damaging the gearbox. Galaxy Fuses002.pdf
  7. Certainly does. I take the other forum was US-centric? Or have we really become the 51st State of the good old USofA?

  13. I got rid of our TV set 12 years ago, and it made one hell of a difference to our family and social life (for the better). Got worried about that statement, so checked tvlicencing.co.uk: Do I need a TV Licence? You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, digital box, DVD or video recorder, PC, laptop or mobile phone to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. If you use a digital box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence. Phew, relief.

  16. Looks like you have a double-DIN unit, does it include Sat Nav? The black connector looks like what you would connect to a standard DIN unit such as the Ford 2006RDS or Ford 2007RDS models.

  18. Follow-up from my post of May 15 2008, 22:05:33 -- this is my tale of woe: About 10 weeks ago, my Galaxy 2.0GLX Auto started playing up. First, it overheated because I think I had not fully tightened the coolant reservoir cap. The car would not start, so I disconnected the battery earth, waited 10 seconds, reconnected battery lead and it started. The problem occurred intermittently until it went into the garage for a service, where it just would not start. The garage checked the car over and came up with two faults: Mass Air Flow Meter was showing a fault and the red LED on the door was flashing like crazy. They advised sorting these problems first before servicing the car. After much struggling, managed to get the car home. Changed relays 30 and 167, car would not start. Located a Hitachi-branded after market MAF meter, but car would still not start. Now, my car came with one RED key, one Torch Key and one standard key. Tried to reprogram by using method from Ford TIS, but the red LED on door did not respond as expected. Disconnected battery for 10 days to see if this reset all the electronics, but still no joy. Eventually, decided to take the cowling off the steering wheel, and the lower dash on drivers side. Got my hand behind the fuse box and made sure all plugs were nice and tight. Removed each fuse and each relay and re-fitted. The immobiliser in the key talks to the transponder around the ignition barrel. I followed the thick cable from the transponder and located the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System) box just above the lower section of the steering column. Made sure plugs nice and tight. This was about two weeks ago and by now, I was without a car for almost 8 weeks and tearing my hair out!! Turned the key in the ignition and the bloody thing started up. The only problem is that on the 2.0 Auto, you're supposed to get Ford to reprogram the ECU using their FDS2000 kit when you mess around with the MAF meter or the PATS (even if you disconnect/reconnect wiring plugs). Now, I had the car in the driveway for two weeks and each day I would start her up just to make sure the intermittent fault hadn't returned, as the MOT test had come due mid-June. The revs at idle are supposed to be 850RPM, but my Gal was running at 1250RPM, and debated whether I should get Ford to reprogram the ECU, but decided against it. Took the car in for MOT today (I've left the lower dash cover off) and she passed without problems. Ran the car for a couple of miles and the revs are now down to 850RPM, so the ECU has started to learn already. For info on PATS and key programming, download this document PATS_and_Keys.pdf
  19. macssafc I too have started having the same problem: the immobiliser light on the door flashes twice then stays on -- I have three keys, one with a built-in torch, and two identical keys, one with red fob the other with black fob (which is my main key), and none of the keys will start the engine, which turns over just fine. My garage tells me the mass air flow meter is showing a fault -- does anyone know if this will cause a starting problem? ---------- 1996 Galaxy 2.0GLX Auto

  23. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black Black is the color of objects that do not reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum. Scientifically, a black object absorbs all the colors of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them. This is sometimes confused with black being called 'a mixture of all colors', but that is not the case. In fact, an object emitting or reflecting all colors is perceived as white. Sometimes black is described as an "achromatic color"; in practice, black can be considered a color, e.g., the black cat or black paint. Color or light in science Black can be defined as the visual impression experienced in directions from which no visible light reaches the eye. (This makes a contrast with whiteness, the impression of any combination of colors of light that equally stimulates all three types of color-sensitive visual receptors.) Pigments that absorb light rather than reflect it back to the eye "look black". A black pigment can, however, result from a combination of several pigments that collectively absorb all colors. If appropriate proportions of three primary pigments are mixed, the result reflects so little light as to be called "black". An interesting phenomenon is that adding a "shine" or a gloss to a black object will create a black mirror which will reflect light and still "look black." For example a shiny black balloon will reflect a point source of light to the extent that if moved back and forth rapidly by its stem while shining colored lights at it the balloon will disappear leaving visible trails of light that appear to be laser-like to the naked eye. This effect was used to great success by "A Balloonman," named Gregory GOrDon beginning in the 1980's who entertained with it in various nightclubs including Studio 54, Paradise Garage, and Club Cheetah in New York City and The Melody Bar in New Brunswick, NJ. This provides two superficially opposite but actually complementary descriptions of black. Black is the lack of all colors of light, or an exhaustive combination of multiple colors of pigment.
  24. ;) Brilliant! Love it.
  25. Check these guys out: http://www.eastcoastsalvage.co.uk/vehicles.aspx Just do a search for "Galaxy". Anyone have any history with this place??
