I picked up an S-Max with this engine in May. Basically it is a fantastic engine, all the best qualities of the 2 litre plus more power and (lots) more refinement, and it also gets twin exhausts, slightly bigger front discs and the 6 speed box that the 2.5T S-Max has, which is slicker than the one offered with the other diesels. Only downside is abrupt turbo shutoff at light throttle at 1500-2000rpm, which should be cured by a software update in the next month or so. Happy to answer any questions about this engine....

I looked into this for our 2006 Mk3 Galaxy and was only interested if I could have steering wheel control of track selection and source switching, but in the end found the only way was to upgrade the head unit, either to a factory Sony one that plays MP3 CD's (so no ipod required at all) or something double DIN and touchscreen from Pioneer or Kenwood. The new Kenwood DNX5220BT is looking very tempting !

I have the factory Sony in my S-Max. I recommend upgrading the front tweeters first: I put in some JL Audio VR ones, then some XR ones. Both really opened the sound up. Replacing the woofers in a Mk3 can be a pain in the ****, as they are a combined speaker and mounting. Not worth doing, as the premium factory woofers are good enough, especially if you add a separate amp and split out the lowest frequencies to a sub.
