  1. In my experience squeaky belts are caused by the freewheeling mechanism on the alternator pulley having seized. This is worth investigation.
  2. Yes, pure rubbish. I got a new pulley for my 99 Tdi from my local motor factor and they lent me the tool Main dealers etc is definitely not the way to go. Always the local motor factor and the local garage that they recomment.
  3. Hi, I have to change the outer joint on my wife's galaxy because it is clicking like mad. I have just bought a joint from the ebay seller that has been recommended here. The reason I have the prob is that my mechanic put the joint together when he changed the boot and left out some parts. Nice eh? I know about the circlip and the dished washer that keeps the joint in the right position and under the correct load. What I don't know about is where the little plastic bevelled sleeve that comes in the pack goes? Somebody else posted an exploded view of a driveshaft and this little sleeve doesn't show in that diagram. And of course "assembly is not the reverse of disassembly" because the guy who did it last left parts out. Thanks for the help. Richard Dublin, Ireland 99 Tdi
  4. thanks, great link. Richard
  5. Guys, my 99 Galaxy tdi 110bhp needs a new clutch. The garage doing the work has told me the release bearing is about 200 euro and the 2 part clutch about 250 euro. When I look at the gsf site for sharan the parts are much more reasonable, and there is a branch of gsf in Dublin (where I live) Can anybody confirm what I strongly suspect, namely that the 220mm clutch listed R-622222909 is the right one. And that the release bearing R-ZA29808A1 is the one for the job. If I can confirm that then I may save myself a considerable sum. Many thanks, Richard Sheil Dublin, Ireland
  6. Any idea where to buy one of these please apart from Ford Dealers? Is there a company who do Galaxy parts on line? thanks, Richard Some nice person broke our one off yesterday when the car was parked.
  7. The belt is in pieces- in fact I don't have most of it as it is in many bits. Do you mean the main crank pulley slipping of the end of the crank? Is it just a matter of tightening it back on? thanks, Richard
  8. My 99 Galaxy Tdi 110 ( pre PD engine) goes through alternator drive belts about once every 9 months or so. Today we have another shredded belt. I have changed the tensioner spring unit, the tensioner roller and the bar that connects the roller to the tensioner spring unit and taken the bracket that this lot attaches to and had it rebushed in a machine shop. Yet still it shreds belts. I understand from this forum that these engines have a reputation for doing this. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to rectify this properly. thanks, Richard Dublin, Ireland
