Good idea to collate all this i'net info. If you have XP you can use System Restore to resurrect your PC. Don't know how you do it though, not happened to me..... yet! Although it did with W98, lost everything! -
Help With New Galaxy
Another?Maybe! replied to Another?Maybe!'s topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Thanks for advice so far. As I've only had the vehicle for a day so far thought I had better give it a chance b4 I invoke the 30 day thing. Oil level is ok, first thing I checked, where are the grommets? Straight through or in sideways, and where located? -
Hi Guys. I've just changed my '51' 2.3 Gal for a Ford Direct '53' 130 diesel Ghia with 7,500 on the clock, collected it yesterday, seems to have been a good deal, BUT... ... when got it home, raised the bonnet, as you do, and discovered quite a bit of oil spray in there. Found that the well around the engine oil filler cap was full of oil which was source of the 'spray', cleaned it up and assumed an over enthusiastic service man had missed the hole and not bothered to clean it up himself. But after having been for a run to test it, found oil was weeping from under the filler cap again so fault there somewhere. Anyone come across this? Is it serious or maybe just a faulty seal in the filler cap so cap needs replacing? Also, the engine seems to be covered by a plastic shield, has Ford badge, TDI lettering and false exhaust picture on it. I thought it would be a good idea to remove this to look at the engine, etc. underneath, to see if that is covered in oil, but couldn't remove it although it obviously must come off for maintenance. I can wobble it about but there must be clips somewhere holding it and I don't want to risk breaking them by brute force if they are screwed in. Someone must know how it comes off? I would look on the TIS disc but always find this very unfriendly and difficult to navigate around. Also, when this cover does come off, do I need to remove the dip stick first?? Thanks for any help. PS. Had vehicle from dealer 20 miles away so thought a bit of advanced knowledge might be useful b4 getting back to him! PS. Had it from dealer 20 miles away so thought a bit of advance knowledge would be useful!

Alhambra /alpine Stereo Problem
Another?Maybe! replied to s2will's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Sounds like one of the mechanics from my local Ford dealer has had a transfer to this branch of Halfords! Is typical of how they work, fix one job and create another so car has to be worked on unnecessarily on problems which were not there when it originally went in..... and it's never their fault, always a coincidence. I am convinced that my Galaxy, and the Maverick I had before, were used as training vehicles for their mechanics because they saw so few of these. But final bill never reflected this, of course. -
Clocks OK in the daytime now I remember where to look. Difficult to read when dark and car lights on though. Perhaps it's my varifocals?!

My 51 reg (manuf in May 2000!) Ghia comes with a warning triangle. Should be in storage area on rt hand side of 'boot', where jack lives. Have a look!

There has been lots of previous discussions on this topic. Do a search under 'radio code' Good luck!

Ford Fridge For The Galaxy Power Lead
Another?Maybe! replied to MrT's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have a 12v coolbox, bought in France some time ago which we originally used to cool beer when caravanning as wife wouldn't let me empty food out of caravan fridge to fill up that up with beer! I use it with my current Gal, May 2000(!). First time I parked for a while and left the coolbox running car wouldn't start when I went back to it, was plugged into rear 12v socket. But I did discover the car battery was duff a couple of weeks later. Remembered to unplug it when parked since, so problem not repeated itself. Maybe the early Gals don't have sensor or was just 'cos my battery was u.s. Learned another lesson here  as well. Neighbour near where I flattened battery loaned me his jump-leads but wouldn't turn my battery over so RAC called. RAC man said need heavy duty jump leads for this size of engine. Bought some when I got home. Next time battery was flat (before it was replaced) Wife's small Corsa battery started the Gal with my new heavy duty leads. Thereby lies a morale, don't scrimp on jump leads, they will be a waste of time! :P -
Ford Direct - A Scam?
Another?Maybe! replied to iainkirk's topic in Best second hand prices (Galaxy)
Thanks! Actually found it myself through 'Google' after I left this site. Told me the 04 demonstrator I had agreed to buy at 2004 prices, but then sneakily copied down the Vin number, was actually built in October 2003 although not registered until April, hence 04 plate. So... see my legal question at 'General Discussion & Nonsense'!! PeteR -
Ford Direct - A Scam?
Another?Maybe! replied to iainkirk's topic in Best second hand prices (Galaxy)
Help, Please!! I found a post on here yesterday wgich gave you website to formula for finding out what the Vin Number meant. In particulsr I am interested in the bit which tells you when the vehicle was manufactured. But....... I can't find it now and 'search' can't find either. Anyone remember or tell me where it was??? Thanks PeteR -
Nimrod 1. Gotcha! 2. Thanks (guess I need to get a picture first, bit like cherished numbers, ones you see look good and you think 'why didn't I think of that', but how do you do/get some original thinking!!) PeteR

What's a 'door card clip' ? PS. Must get one of those pictures to accompany my name! How do you do it? PeteR

This may not be the place to ask but here goes..... how do you tell if diesel is 115ps or 130ps? Nothing on engines to indicate difference, or anywhere else I can see. I remember reading answer to this on this site some time back but can't find it now using 'search' Thanks in advance!

Make sure you get a trailer-board if the bikes obscure the rear number plate. It's not only French police who will pull you over if you don't! Our motorway patrols... yes, some do still exist!... are pretty keen as well. Also, internal bike 'rack' is a Ford accessory as well. Dread to think how expensive, though!

Centre Dashboard Storage Bin
Another?Maybe! replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
Trouble is, anything you put into these two top dash storage compartments gets red hot on sunny days... so I wouldn't fancy the chances of a pen! Not much room for anything else either. PeteR -
Just discovered this thread as new post added. When I bought my current Galaxy I asked for tonneau cover as part of the deal as I was unhappy to have exposed luggage... my previous car, Ford Maverick 4x4, came with one. So dealer agreed. When I collected I was told: 'if we had realised it would take all day to fit we wouldn't have done it, or we would have charged you for it'! Mind you, my current Ford dealer doesn't see many Galaxys so the mechanics tend to learn on the ones they do see! Anyway, I'm glad they fitted it as am very pleased with it. I understand the load cover is now a standard fitment on Alhambras but still an extra on the Ford version. Something to bear in mind. PeteR

Suggest try eSure (Michael Winner!), or Sainsburys Bank. Can get quotes from both on-line and save 10% Chap who started eSure originally started Direct Line. PeteR

I have one of these.... ex caravanning use. They are very good for cooling beer when fridge is full, only trouble is they have a fan in to circulate air across the 'works' and this is noisy. We now take ours to Travel Inns, etc. but can't leave on overnight 'cos of the noise. You will find they cool for so many degrees below the ambient temperature.... 20F?.... so depends how hot the air temp is as to how cool they get inside. Also watch how long you use it if engine switched off as can quickly flatten car battery as learned to our cost. I now also have a proper mains to 12 volt (you can't use battery charger) rectifier like mobile phone charger so can use indoors. Good with Galaxy as has the 2 power sockets in the boot. PeteR

Anyones aircon coping with this hot weather? It was 80+ (F!) today. Rear seat pasengers complained still too hot despite C/C running the fan at max revs... as someone said a bit back, the Gal is too big for the aircon to cope with all that space inside. Or maybe not working properly!

Thanks for info on towing. Sounds good, guess I'll have to change from petrol to diesel. PeteR
