  1. Ah, just had a thought while reading other threads. When i parked up the car i tried to pull out the key with the auto box in gear. Obv it doesn't let you do this and when i yanked it hard the key stayed in and the remote key bit came off the key. When i realised, i put the box in P and put the key back together. Would the engine have failed to start because the key had lost it's code? I'd feel pretty stupid, but it would save me a few quid! If so, i think thats the only key i got for the engine! i got another one that only works in drivers door. Can they recode my key? or can i do it myself?
  2. Everything when t*ts up today, took it round the literally corner to pick up kids, came back to it and it wouldn't start. It would fire for like two seconds and then die. Called out RAC who could not find out why it would not start. Towed to garage and find out tomorrow - my credit card is quivering with fear. The RAC man plugged in his diagnostic equip (saved me a job at least) and found P0102 (MAF), P0302 (no 2 misfire) and P0321 (?). He said neither of those faults would prevent it from starting. Only had the bloody thing a week!! I thought VW engines were reliable :(
  3. No joy! think i may invest in Vag-Com, not wanting to tempt fate but i may well need it in future. Is there anyone near brighton that has a lead i can borrow? If not then which of the leads on ebay should i pluck for?
  4. Thanks for all the replys! How good of ford - it's not even like they can deny the problem if VW recalled them. I'm gonna unplug the coil packs and from that i should be able to tell the offending one. At risk of sounding stupid, (i've only had it a week though!) are the coil packs the 6 plugs on the top of the engine block? I can just unplug them right?
  5. yeah, i kind of suspected coil pack from reading other posts on here. So now i need to find out which one! I have read about a technique spraying the engine with water mist in the dark to find arcing, Is that right? where abouts in the engine bay do i look? Can i find the fault using a multimeter? Again, thanks for any and all help
  6. I've just got a V6 2001 ghia gal, (168,000) and was really happy with it until a light started blinking at me. The engine warning light started flashing when the engine was under load. Now it's not flashing but constant and the v6 is idling rough and rough at low revs. I filled her up with a tank of asda petrol (95) just before the fault, could it be that? Will i muller it if i keep driving? Can't really afford silly garage prices just to find out what is wrong, but i imagine that there is more expertise on here than at the grease monkey's anyway? Any help appreciated - if anyone has a fault reader and half an hour anywhere near brighton theres a bottle of wine in it!
  7. Bit of a stab in the dark but try unplugging the MAF sensor from air box assembly. The engine will use a default mix mapping - if your MAF sensor is screwed unplugging it should result in better performance. Remember to get a new one though!
  8. Have you tested the coil pack? Common problem on all galaxys. search the forum for coil pack, there is an easy way to tell involving a some spray mist in the dark with engine running.
  9. Is it just my gal or do these get knackered on all? Any idea how much a set of 4 will set me back at fraud dealer?
