  1. I was on my way to work on wednesday morning (5am) when the 'charge' light came on, "oh damn and blast!", I thought. Stopped to check, the belt was still running so must be the alternator. The history of the old Gal we have, is that it has done 180,000 miles, is a 'bit' bashed, and the alternator that was on there had the old 'box of budgies' rattle since we got it. Popped into Partco and collected a new alternator, fitted it in 1 1/2 hours, like a new motor!! You wouldn't believe how quiet it is! For an old engine with 180,000 miles, it sounds like new! I checked the old pulley (clutch type) when I removed the alternator and it was seized solid on the alternator shaft, the new one worked as it should. No wonder it was chirping. Replacing an alternator on a MKI diesel (110) is a piece of cake, as long as you remove the airbox, engine cover, etc (don't forget to disconnect the battery!!!) One online company I checked prices and availablity with said they supplied new alternators but with 'solid' pulleys, due to the failure rate of the clutch type. Sounds great but saves them
  2. We can find you.... it's just a matter of time!
  3. OK, job done! ;) All fixed and working, I'm on a roll! ;) Cleared the blockage in the grease point, wd40'd the suspension joint (which was locked solid) and gave it a good dose of grease from the gun, until it was oozing from the joints. Bob's your uncle, job's a goodun! Working suspension! ;) Sorry to bore you with Rover stuff ;) ...... but I'm made-up! ;)
  4. I'd also like to add my thanks for the diagnosis, was spot-on! got a replacement from a motor factors near work, fitted on saturday morning in 30 mins ('er indoors couldn't believe it! :19: ) .... all is now peaceful and rattle-free! Was the bottom joint, top was ok, and as has been said before, on the car it wouldn't move by a 'hand wiggle', off the car it was clicking in and out, easily 0.5 to 1 mm movement. :19: Next on the list is the Rover 100.... squeaky rear offside, and a blocked grease point, fingers crossed it should be another quick job. :19:
  5. know of the forum there are a couple of deli owners on here :( why not a deli? get the best of both worlds 4x4 and a seven seater! It's the 25mpg which puts me off the Deli! Thanks for the welcomes peeps! B)
  6. Hi Everybody I've joined to get some info on my 'new' purchase, a 98 GLX 1.9Tdi. We sold our cherished 3.5 V6 Pajero Exceed last month as I'm starting a new job (company car is being returned) and needed a motor for the family and one that is relatively economical (which the Pajero wasn't) For my woes, I'm a Moderator on the Pajero Owners Club (POCUK.COM)..... not a job that you should take lightly! There's a few niggles on our new motor, which I'm hoping to fix/replace, which I hope this site will provide invaluable help :D Cheers for now Alan B)
