Lol, the new one goes completely against why I bought a seat alhambra twice over, Competative price and Loadsa kit standard. Seems that the Sharan may actually be more cost effective.....Naaaaa silly me. Well SEAT (VAG) have priced me out of the equation. Fence....Chasm to jump over. Matt

Losing The Turbo Power!

Possible leak in a pipe (boost pipe)? -
Last Tues on my return from Manchester to Blackpool and having given a new set of tyres on the front. I got within a mile of home and setting off from the lights small metallic clunk then gerraaunch as I tried to accelerate with no effect. Sods law it was the day I'd left my mobile at home....60p for a single call at the phone box, outrageous ! Turns out I snapped the drive-shaft. Have had the driveshaft and stubshaft replaced and am back on the road. Is this a common failure ? Oooh yeah just clocked the 100,000 mile mark ! Matt

Cheers George, There is a hypersilver on a 10plate just come on autotrader and a couple of others around too. Seem to be 08 to present but rare ! The wife is now saying keep the alhambra !! aaargh.... Still there's no rush and we are not doing a long drive till the end of the year so the rear legroom is not a big issue. Matt

Have a look at these. I am about to get one, I have the PD 130 and will get an economy map and a performance map (you can revert to standard at any time too). I have spent ages looking into the products and which to choose. http://www.viezu.com/index.php?option=com_locator&id=72&Itemid=190 There should be a dealer close to you. Matt

Cheers ! They are easy to clean too (still fiddly to get at). Still looking good today  Matt

Hiya, I have a Pd130 and do Blackpool - Bradford each day and back. I am averaging 50-55Mpg at an average of 70-75mph. I think that if you have a remap then you should see an improvement but with everything there is no guarrantee as most of it depends on the right foot and driving technique ! A remap for the 115 should bring you up or above my torque and power so should relatively increase the economy ? only my opinion though. Matt

I used the Halfords stuff in a tin....a wire brush to remove the crud and some UPVC solvent to clean ready for the paint. 2 coats sorted ! I have now done the rear calipers as well. Good luck and oh yeah wear some rubber gloves duckie !!! Matt

Anyone Used One Of These Before
matt1e replied to big boy stevie's topic in Customising your Ford Galaxy
Gregers, you are right I should acknowledge that in his last post Willie gave the advice as I suggested was the appropriate way to comment on a query post like this. I still think that Willie is very 'black and white' in his view.... I mean VW authorise some of the tuners so what does that say about the whole situation ! :D PING..... Matt -

George, Please.....As an engine calibrator then you accept the huge variances and thus the trade offs needed to cover each continent. Europe goes from near equator to near artic as such the manufacturing tuning has to be able to cope (without issue) in each area. This is what most respectable/knowledgeable tuners exploit for more power/torque. The manufacturers have specific marketing profiles to cover and they manage costs by having an engine (and other items) cover as many as possible to maximise efficiencies on cost and push up their profits.... Why wouldn't a tuner know the facts about each and every component ? As their reputations are on the line it is in their interest to know these things. If we didn't have tuners (or tinkerers) then we would likely have a very stagnant motorsport world. Motor sport is where the standard engine can be pushed to its limits and we then get a "street" variant of these tunes within the tried and tested limits. A Diesel would (if allowed) suck more and more fuel in until destruction of the components which, I'm sure you know, is why the accelerator is not actually that it is a regulator restricting the fuel allowed into the cylinders (PD is subtlely different in this respect). If you balance better fueling with better air then why would combustion temps increase ? The PD TDI family is that of: 90/110/115 (same engine in varying tune) then as you correclty state the 130 with the differences as you describe. Which essentially was followed by the 130 "tune-up" (incl intercooler) for the 150 which never sold here in the UK. They have now changed to common rail injection on the 2.0 engines. Funny thing is that you appear not to like tuning and are entitled to that opinion but don't do the generic scare monger. If you have the facts then state them i.e. do not push the injection pressure above ***Bar. The clutch will need upgrading over 190BHP and 310Nm torque ! FACTS like these help people make their own rational decisions, not ones based on your ideals. Matt ;) -

Depends on the fiddler in my experience......the maintenence given and the state of the engine prior to mods. I have read and read about the best practice and the best tuning options on the VAG 1.9 TDI Pd (130) and have only come across a couple of bad news items. WILLIE KRASHIT: These statements are ill advised: Quote a) "more power = more fuel used" NOT ALWAYS....If a car is tuned better then more power will equal LESS fuel used as the engine does not need to "WORK" as hard to maintain the performance. Quote B) These "hot chip" companies work may well work "reliably" in lighter vehicles where the engine cannot be maintained on high load for very long, but the Galaxy is a 2-ton + passengers heavyweight. If this were true then surely the std engine will fail much earlier than in lighter vehicles !!!!!! Please if you feel the need to give advice or guidance then 1: Balance your information and 2: read up properly. Most engines are de-tuned to accommodate massively wide variables and thus can be tuned to a better more focussed purpose. Matt -
This is the theory, but in practice you have to check the overall diamater is the same. I have the 17" wheels on rather than the 16" std and the tyre profile seat place on the rim required the speedo sensor to be swapped. There are many tyre to wheels size convertors to show what profile to have on a specific size rim to keep the rolling radius the same. http://www.performancetyresdirect.co.uk/converter/converter.html Regards, Matt The wheel diameter gets bigger but the tyre profile is smaller, hence the combined wheel/tyre diameter stays the same and hence does not affect anything. Provided the wheel offset is the same the only concern regarding contact with the wheel arch would be if you were also lowering the suspension.

Well just had a really nice trip in 80degree heat fully loaded with the family for 8 hours and no aircon ! What a time for it to stop working. Fans are blowing warm air and do no appear to be getting to "FULL POWER" blowing only approx 3qtrs blow. I have the electronic climate (dual) control as standard on the Bamma SE. compressor ? or other ? best to goto my VAG specialist garage or an aircon place? If aircon place any in the Blackpool area ?? Cheers, Matt

...Managed 45.6 mpg Blackpool to Folkestone at 70mph (cruise ctrl). Mounted it far back......cheers ! Matt

Wind Back Tool - Where To Buy One ?
matt1e replied to sasquartch's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Halfrauds do one which I bought used and if you are carefull enough with the packaging you can get ya money back too.....Obviously it was the wrong one for my car !!!!!!!!!! Hee Hee nice loan ! -
OK Yes on the roof is the obvoius answer......... BUT.....Is it more efficient to have it forwards on the rails - where it breaks the airstream itself in cleanish air and that air flowing up the bonnet and windscreen hits the underside of the box and goes below. OR Mount it further back - so the air flows up over the bonnet and windscreen and hopefully the trajectory (?) of the air carries on over the roofbox ! I am asking as I can't remember which made the biggest difference on my last trip to Italy. Ideas and knowledge please, and it is a wide 750ltr box with a low front. Cheers, Matt
