  1. Yeah cheers, I've checked that but my one isn't doing the seized up thing, its freewheeling in one direction ok.
  2. Not so sure about that. I think if your slave cylinder seals have gone the pedal will just go straight to the floor. Is there any evidence of fluid leaking out of the bottom of the clutch bellhousing?
  3. Cheers guys. I do get the full lock chirping, so I guess the alternator pulley is the first thing to change. Is the metal block part of the tensioner supposed to move backwards and forwards?
  4. I've noticed a rattly noise when ticking over. Looking at the belt tensioner it seems to be moving quite a bit, and when I turn on the heated screens it makes it worse, and a squeaking noise starts. I guess it shouldn't be doing this? Are these things adjustable or is it a case of changing the whole thing? Or should I be looking at the alternator pulley seeing as increased electrical load seems to make it worse? Cheers
  5. I wouldn't hold your breath, mine started when I had the clutch and slave cylinder done. A mechanic I spoke to at Ford had a look for me and seems to think there is a pressure valve somewhere in the system that prevente the plate moving to fast if for instance your foot slipped off the pedal, and this is whats causing the problem.
  6. Stick a tank of decent fuel in it (Shell V power or something like that) and take it for a good long blast up a motorway.
  7. Hi, have had a small knocking noise coming from the front suspension for a while, hit a pothole quite hard yesterday and its got a lot worse. It seems to be from the front offside, happens going over big bumps and also when the suspension loads up under heavy braking, steering doesn't affect if though. Can't see anything obviously wrong, is it likely to be the drop links?
  8. What ias everyones opinion on this. I do serious mileage (taxi) so fuel economy and price per litre is very important to me. A while ago I accidentally filled up with Shell V Power diesel, although I noticed after blasting it back from Gatwick how well it was running, so now I run the odd tank through it. Up until quite lately I've been using supermarket diesel the rest of the time due to the price, but I have noticed that I get a better mpg with the better fuel, so I've been using more of that recently. But with todays VAT hike the price of V Power has gone over 141p :) So is 'normal' esso/shell/texaco diesel any different to supermarket styff? I don't mind paying a couple of pence more if its worth it in the long run but the premium stuff is getting ridiculous. What are peoples thoughts?
  9. Think I read somewhere that the running on is a problem causd by overfilling with oil. Have you topped up or had a service lately?
  10. Don't know about the Mk1 but on the Mk2 the brakes and clutch are fed from the same reservoir. Sounds like it would be worth bleeding the clutch through, again using a pressure bleeder.
  11. Spoke to a Ford mechanic earlier this week. When he drove it he wasn't sure what it could be, but after doing some more research he tinks there is a valve somewhere in the system (probably in the slave cylinder) that is designed to stop the plate hitting the flywheel too hard, if for instance your foot slipped off the pedal. He thinks this is where the fault is but is unsure how to cure it
  12. What do you mean by lose it? Does the pedal just go to the floor with no resistance?
  13. Think mines packed up completely pretty much. May fire up immediately after clearing faults, but that's it for the day. Think it's time to invest in a new glow plug. Anyone know which one I need for an 05 model?
  14. Found out what the burning rubber smell is, it was something stuck to the exhaust burning off :) Same again yesteday, cleared the codes first thing, fired up and it run perfectly. Let car warm up then switched off for half an hour, started her up to go out and nothing. Drove home after car had been sat idle for 3 hours and it worked again. Switched off for 10 mins, then nothing again. Think it needs a 'tap' with a heavy object!
  15. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-GALAXY-VW-SHARAN-1-9-TDI-PD-ENGINE-OIL-FILTER-/300375904033?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item45efcc8f21 Could someone look at this and tell me if this definately meets the specs for the 1.9 PD, and also does anyone kn ow of anywhere cheaper? Many thanks
  16. Seems to be a common problem after a clutch change. See this thread http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=19575&view=findpost&p=148278&hl=weird+clutch&fromsearch=1 I found bleeding the whole clutch and brake system with a pressure bleeder helped, although it certainly hasn't cured it.
  17. I don't think this is the same as the normal problem, hence the new thread. Mine has worked fine since I've had the car, she's an 05 PD engine with 175000 on the clock. I noticed this week that she was taking an age to warm up so I plugged in Vag Com, and sure enough I got the flame out error. Cleared that and it started working fine again for the rest of the day. Started up next morning, nothing, cleared fault, fine again. Getting a little bit of white smoke on start up, nothing like the clouds others report, and also noticed a bad smell of what smels like burning rubber coming from the area when its running. Is this a sign of the glow plug packing up, or something more sinister? Cheers
  18. After months of scratching my head after the normal water in the footwell issue, I have finally found and fixed the problem! Remove the side trim from along the passenger footwell (and be sure to fix the washer pipe!) Remove the brass plate from the bottom edge of the seat (notice the corrosion in the picture, this is where the fault is) Peel back a load of the wiring covering. Inside will be four red/white wires unbelievably joined together by twisting and covered in a bit of gaffer tape. The wires in my case had completley corroded away. Remake the connections properly. I've used a terminal block. Recover and refit, job done! (and remember to fix that bloody washer pipe ;-) )
  19. Fuel filter was changed about 3000 miles ago. Do these things have a cold running solenoid or something like that?
  20. Have noticed my 1.9 tdi acting a bit strange the last few weeks. She starts from cold with no problems, however after a couple of minutes running she loses power and dies, although if I keep the revs up it will keep running roughly. Then its a real pig to restart, cranking for ages. Finally she goes and were off again, and then as it warms up a bit the it suddenly clears and runs as sweet as a nut. Its like something is switching on or off, thats how sudden the change is. Anyone got any ideas what it could be? Cheers
  21. Hi, my galaxy needs a new front brake hose. It looks simple enough, any pitfalls I should know about or tips anyone can give me to make the job a bit easier? Cheers
  22. On a Mk2 if you took out the standard air con dial controls and replaced it with a climate control unit would it work? Cheers
  23. Still investigating the no heater control/clock problem. Have now checked the voltages at the fusebox. To my simple electrical mind when I take a fuse out I should get 12v on the 'live' side and 0v on the 'dead', correct? Well on some fuses I am getting a small voltage on the 'dead' side. To me this seems very wrong but my electronics knowledge is quite limited, can anyone with a bit more nouse shed any light?
  24. What year and model Galaxy have you got? Do the controls still all work? A common problem seems to be that something goes and takes out the direction and heater control, although the blower fan speed is unaffected.
  25. Just thought I would bump this back up as I'm having the same problem. Slave cylinder went, so put new clutch in while it was stripped, DMF was still quite new so didn't need replacing, bled clutch with pressure bleeder which seemed to improve things a bit but its far from perfect.
