  1. Thanks for your help, and sarcasm. Maybe I should spend more time on this forum. Like you.
  2. Have read all of the aux heater threads and mine smokes like a chimney when cold, certainly getting people to stop me and tell me that I'm on fire! Seems from the threads that I need a new glow plug - if so, is this a big job? Anyone know what kind of bill I might be looking at from a Ford dealer? Also, if it's not the glow plug, any other ideas? It's a 1.9tdi 115 2003 with 39k by the way Cheers
  3. They don't look like regular screens and headrests to me - maybe for the new Galaxy just out?
  4. I agree - I saw one at the dealership - those so called fold flat seats are hopeless - firstly, they don't fold flat into the floor, but sit above it, so if you like only two seats in the middle row, there is still the middle seat folded but protruding from the floor. Also, I have the middle row seats anchored in the inner position as opposed to the outer slots next to the door - you can't do this in the new one. All in all, I prefer the hassle of removing them, to this bad attempt at a fold flat system. Otherwise, the overhead storge seems a waste of time. The silver dash look just looks cheap. Not convinced. And, it is now a Ford, not a VW with a Ford badge. I think it is going to be worth waiting to see what the new Sharan looks like.
  5. Could be either (1) you do not have the radio on in the front - seems to be connected to the DVD for power, so make sure it is on (2) use the remote rather than the button on the DVD casing - this usually does it for me and (3) make sure you select DVD at the on screen menu instead of AUX Hope this helps Tim
  6. Are cordless headphones compatible with the factory fit DVD player - if so, is it simply a question of putting the transmitter into the headphone sockets. Presumably, charging the headsets needs to be done indoors. Any ideas how long a charge usually lasts for? And, if the answer is yes, any recommendations for a make of cordless headphones? Cheers
  7. Love the wheels - do they affect the ride quality a lot - I already find my 16" Ghia wheels a bit harsh, will I notice a lot harsher ride with those 18" on? Thanks
  8. Why does the climate control automatically switch off the a/c when the outside temperature drop below 5 degrees? This is just when you need it to stop the windows misting up. I have had loads of cars with climate control that didn't do this.
  9. The shop is Dynamic Sounds, 308 Walworth Road, London SE17 2NA, tel 0207 252 6061. They are about 2 mins south of the Elephant & Castle.
  10. Davetheref: In short, not sure, as the car stereo shop did it all. Originally, I only had the factory fit DVD system. To that I added a regular TV tuner (which includes a FM Modulator sot hat you can hear the sound thru' the car speakers). The aerial is nothing special and is stuck to one of the rear windows. As you will find with any regular TV tuner, reception is pretty poor at the best of times, and non existent on the move. When I upgraded recently, I added a Pioneer DVD head unit with 6.5" screen and at the same time, removed the old TV Tuner and replaced it with the Freeview box, which is a normal Panasonic Freeview box (see Argos) that the stereo shop adapted. The result is far superior, good picture (most of the time) and also at slow speeds in traffic etc. plus of course all the extra channels. So to answer the question, I don't know what is needed to adapt the freeview box for car use, but I do know that it worked out much much cheaper than buying a Freeview car tv tuner which seem to go for
  11. Matt Thanks for your help - in answer to your question about Sky/Freeview, yes, I get all the channels that are available thru' Freeview, which includes Sky News and oneof the Sky Sports channels (Eurosport I think). Cheers
  12. Kids have finally ruined the standard wired headsets that came with the factory fit DVD player. Would like to replace them with infrared, but not sure how this works as most seem to need a seperate power supply - any suggestions would be great. Otherwise, does anyone know where to get wired headsets with the 'long' cable on them - I can only find stanrd 1.2m lengths at the moment. Cheers
  13. Wheezer: the low sound level on the iPod could be for two possible reasons 1) Have you checked that the volume on the iPOD itself is turned up high? 2) Don't know what head unit you have, but some have a facility to adjust the standard volume level. On my Pioneer, I have done this and it comes out the same as the radio, Cd etc. VR6Galaxy: For your front screen, I used a 'stick on' rear view mirror on the rear window - this reflected the picture off the headrest screens and you could then see the picture on the rear view mirror on the front windscreen. A bit basic, but not bad for
  14. Spark The Freeview box is a domestic box - a Panasonic, and the ICE shop have adapted the power supply for car use. It sits nicely on a shelf they built under the glove box in the passenger seat footwell area. I used the same ariel as I had for the regular TV tuner as I was told it wouldn't make much difference - it is stuck to the rear side window. The cost was about
  15. I have the factory fit DVD package (DVD and 2 screens in the headrests). However, I have also added: - Pioneer DVD motorised screen head unit to the front which powers front and both rear screens. Also can show DVD from Ford unit - so both ways. - Panasonic Freeview box so can watch TV (and extra channels) - this is better than regular TV tuner which never gets good enough signal. With Freeview, I can watch TV on the move although at high speeds you lose the signal a bit - iPOD connection - replaced speakers all round - Pioneer 200w powered amp bass unit in the back This means I can watch DVD in front and can use either of the 2 DVD players to run them - can use/watch alternate TV/DVD/CD/Radio/IPOD in front rear etc i.e. kids can watch a film in back and listen via headsets and I can do something different in the front. Sound quality if amazing and Ipod connection lead is only about
  16. Thanks for the advice. Re the ICE install, I already had the factory fit DVD and 2x screens and added an Alpine head unit and TV tuner to be able to hear the sound through the speakers. Then recently I changed the Alpine head unit for a Pioneer 6.5" screen / DVD / CD etc etc etc in the front. With regular TV tuners, it is almost impossible to get a really good signal and picture quality suffers as a result - and that is just when you are standing still. The guys at the ICE shop have adapted a regular Freeview box (Panasonic) and suggested I'd get a better result with it - the answer is yes, even on the move and of course you get all the extra channels. Everything is now controlled from the front head unit touch screen, including the iPod connection. The factory fit DVD player is not redundant as the kids can watch a DVD in the back with the headphones and I can watch something else in the front (not while driving along of course!). I have also added a 200w Pioneer powered amp sub-woofer in the boot and replaced all the door speakers with JBL in the front and Pioneer in the rear doors, which gives watching movies the full cinema sound.
  17. I have seen many posts about how much MPG you can get from the diesel. My 115ps seems to be deteriating and I now get only around 30-35 mpg on mainly motorway and some town driving. It used to be 40+. Even trying really hard, it is tricky to get more than 40mpg driving at 55mph on a level dual carriageway. I have 3 questions that I wouldbe grateful for some help with: 1) I saw some discussion about faulty MAF sensor - could this be the cause - how can I tell? 2) I have added some ICE recently, but I would not have thought it would have drained the power sufficiently to affect MPG - could it? 3) With the cold weather, could it be because I have had lights, heater, wipers etc all chundering away at the same time? Many thanks for any advice Tim
  18. Marky My DVD is the factory fit standard system. One or two ICE dealers say that it shouldn't be touched and won't work with any ohter system. My one in SE London took one look at said that it is a just a standard system and did the job no probs. It works, I have a TV tuner with FM modulator so you can watch TV on one screen and listen to it through the stero and watch a DVD on the other and listen through the headsets etc etc etc etc. In fact I also had this set up going with the standard Ford headunit before I switched it for the Alpine. Only downside is that I have 3 remotes controls now - stereo, DVD and TV
  19. Marky I do have an aftermakret head unit - an Alpine and the lead just plugs in at the back and comes up as an AUX on the head unit. The other end just plugs into the headphone socket on the iPod. I have the cable coming up into the centre storage box, so that it is completly out of sight when closed. I heard that Alpine do a unit now that displays your iPod song name/artist etc on the unit itself, but don't know what it costs.
  20. No. this is something connected to the movement of the car - I thought maybe it could be something like the exhaust clanking against the body of the car, but it seems more connected to rear wheels/brakes. Tim
  21. At very low speeds, I am getting a very stange rattle/jingling noise which seems to be coming from rear wheels - it almost sounds like someone has tied some tin cans to the car (they haven't, I checked!). It goes off when I go above about 10mph but below that happens in reverse as well as forwards. I was thinking maybe the brake pads are out, but it is not the normal sound I would associate with worn pads (and isn't there a dash warning anyway?). Any help or advice would as always, be most appreciated Cheers, Tim
  22. I have any iPOD mini and originally used the iTrip fm transmitter, but found the sound quality poor. I now connect my iPod to my head unit with a cable adapter that cost
  23. I have the headrests with screens in and because of the angle needed for the screens to be seen properly by the rear passengers, the headrests do not provide any support for me. Does anyone know of some kind of add-on that can be attached so that the depth of the headrest is effectivly doubled. allowing me to rest my head on the headrest? Thanks
  24. What would be the reason for lowering the suspension, other than looks? I am considering it, but don't want to comprimise the ride, in fact I am looking to make it slightly softer and as most of my driving is on motorways, lowering the suspesnions shuld imporve my mpg? Also, how much am I looking for having it lowered? Thanks v much
