hi all read thru 8 yes 8 pages of great threads on alternator pulley at 4 am after finishing work early (i'm a taxi driver) because i was pretty sure my pulley has gone again after aprox 12-15000 miles :lol: my question is... should it lat longer cos last time (only 3 or 4 months ago) it cost me 50 quid at local auto elec at that rate thats 200 smackers a year a cost i can ill afford thinking of doing it myself if can get part and tool cheap enough any ideas on milage any one??? sporry for any misdrakes i'm knackered :P

[i did mine couple weeks ago on 2000 mk 1 you have to remove: altenator move carefully to one side the a/c pump and p/s pump as all these componentsare attatched to self tensioner bracket you then have to remove said bracket 4 nuts hidden in holes in bracket bit trickey but possible( watch you dont lose em when putting it back on) once all this done water pump can be removed good luck again not too difficult from what you've said bout your competance took me bout 4-5 hrs with cofee and ciggie breaks :) as with all jobs refit is reverse of removal thermostat can be tricky need 3 hands LOL <_<

can the pump be reconned by lil ol me as it went on me last nite could hear bearing on pully wheel for cpl days but needed to work for money now wondering if it can be done rather than buy new any offers gratefully recieved only the shops shut in 3 hrs :( :D :D

just looked on TIS disc not sure if there is a "snap ring" on urs if so that could b problem

Replaced all bits that go in making up tensioner ie bracket bar tensioner wheel etc last april (so not quite 12 mth)..... searched on number of topics and my question is.... "can these self tensioners on the mk 1 gal be adjusted" cos last nite mine started grumbeling and flappin about (not as much as was 12 mth ago) surely they must last longer than this?? only had new alty at xmas so can't be that any ideas anyone please :( only ive just last week replaced turbo (

could this be put in FAQ took me ages to find :o

hi all again well noise still there and batt light flashes only when engine cold though,like i say only for minute at most here's the strange thing on motorway in bit of a rush today doin 70 +10%+ 3 etc 3750rpm and batt light starts again so as next jcn was mine slowed to 60 as came up exit ramp the flashing stopped couldn't hear any sqealing cos of wind noise etc and again no problems on way home??????????????????????? :25: :wacko: :wacko: oh and pulley was replaced cos self tentioner was defunked p.p.s. sometimes wd 40 cures it but not always all contributions gratfully received :16:

read most posts on similar topics can anyone tell me if alty has replacable bearing in... car not long had major sevice and new alty pulley and belt because when cold sounds like metal on metal and batt light flashes... rev engine for 1-2 mins and all is fine please help before it's somethin major AGAIN... :(

hi again all who involved in my dilemma UPDATE last week took gal for check up on clutch that was fitted in april WELL turns out flywheel was knackered and needed replacing as usual cant just buy 1 gotta buy clutch as well 320 quid when all put back together car runs great turns out flywheel was sendin timing out ???????go figure well all "seems" ok for now apart for slight water leak ta for all who were involved blackwolf :wacko: :) :)

thanx for input all latest problem anti roll bar snapped so off road till tuesday but that doesnt mean you have to stop replying i'm learning all the time from this encyclopaedia? of knowledge from this site's members :unsure: i know the gals done a bit but the exterior and interior are pretty much in good shape for what shes done and thats why i keep spending on her as i dont want to give up on her just yet as she keeps going for me the little angel :)

OKAY guys and gals :) sorry couldnt resist update on my prob been to injection specialist who told me maf ok prob engine related i.e. past injector pipes needs to go on DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE to determine prob he says it's misfiring so could be as simple as injector blocked or needs "recalibrating" COST "from 70quid" oh an then the taxmans bit just for him to DIAGNOSE I'm just a taxi driver trying to make ends meet and keep wife and kids in bread and water (water more expensive by the litre than diesel by the way) so i ask again anyone out there near merseyside willing to help poor little me with a vag com please name ur price but be gentle, thanx :)

Hi again all update on my prob got sensor out and cleaned as per other topic on this site slight improvement but have noticed if floor it in highr gears it appears to slip the clutch between 2500 and 3000 rpm any ideas as for engine been told only firing on 3 pots so thats my next task TTFN Blackwolf :32:

first of all thanks for your input i plugged it back in today only to get probs again so unplugged it been quoted 70 somethin from frauds 62 from factors any ideas on anywhere cheaper and what is this tiny piece of plastics role its bafflin me cos engine runs ok(ish) without it all help is dutifuly followed to the letter thanks

Looks like you might have answered your own question! Spend your money on changing the MAF sensor. yes i agree but why still the mis/ropey tickover? any help greatly apreciated 29mpg as a taxi driver is doin me no favours

anyone help me here been to two different garages both telling me different things but agreeing engine is not running right been thru all forums till eyes hurt took MAF plug off runs better (picks up speed when I want it to) but still missing or ropey on tick over any ideas on how much i should pay for diagnostics and how reliable are they?????????? or is there anyone on this site close enough to me (merseyside) with a vag com willing to take my money (feel i'd trust you guys more than the garages) please help before gal loses faith in me ;)

when had gal in for service etc asked him to look at starter(sounds like machine gun LOL) his diagnosis was on VALEO starter (no cone), bush is in bell housing this bush is now u/s he said big job and not guarenteed sugested s/h gearbox haven't got gearbox money so came to trusty site to trawl thru 13 pages of starter probs and didn't come across 1 prob like mine can anyone sugest help/solution v worried blackwolf0578 :ph34r:
