TKPeters Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 I have a 2002 (52) Ford Galaxy Ghia TDi 115 BHP (Superchipped to 160 BHP) & running on 100% Biodiesel with 109k which I've owned from new I have had the servicing done by my local Ford dealer & as per the owners handbook, I've always had it changed at 40k Now last week it snapped on 109k (29k for the cambelt), I have a local mechanic look it over & nothing untoward that may have caused the failure such as a worn tensioner or waterpump. Problem I have is that I purchased the cambelt kit from VW as they where
Guest neil_wiles Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 If you are really lucky the hydraulic tappets will have "popped" through by the valve tops and if so you may have saved your camshaft, I had one go at 150k and ended up replacing several bent valves and new giudes and cutting new seats then with a new set of tappets and a head gasket set I was away. Hope yours is just as easy. I wouldnt bother doing a compression test as the engine is an interference engine and if it has been turned over even on the key with the belt broken you can be sure that the valves will be damaged.

TKPeters Posted August 22, 2006 Author Report Posted August 22, 2006 No, Ford don't know its been Superchipped which was done when it had 500miles on it No warranty, just they guarantee their work for 12 months, yet the problem is down to the parts being supplied direct from VW which we've always done even for the servicing parts as Ford premium on VW parts is joke
tim-spam Posted August 22, 2006 Report Posted August 22, 2006 Although you supplied the parts, are you sure they actually changed the belt? If they did, was it done properly? We all know that the standards of workmanship at dealers is appalling. I wonder if there are any markings on the belt that would show its age? As far as I am aware, these engines are not particularly prone to premature cambelt failures, and the revised part number is due to the later engines having their change intervals increased to 60000 miles.
TKPeters Posted August 22, 2006 Author Report Posted August 22, 2006 Unfortunately I don't know the answer those questions It could be the belt from the 40K service as they both had the same part numbersI have had problems with this dealership when they opened in 2000 (when I bought the first new shape Galaxy) as most of the technicians where trainees Also the car in questions, is now for sale on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=110022408453
