swifty Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Thanks Gregers. Does anyone know how to do it? Swiftie Quote
Mirez Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 (edited) Yes :( You can't do it with Vag-Com though ;) you'll need Vag-Tacho or a bag of winegums. Edited February 22, 2010 by Mirez Quote

We did, but I'll let you off as you're gettin on a bit now :( If you use VDS Pro then you can do it from dos, but its much easier with VT. It takes about 3 minutes, I could write up a little how-to for those that are interested - something we've done on other sites is lease out the cable and software - somthing like Quote
gregers Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 oi im not as old as i look.........................oh sod it forgot wot i was going to say :( thats a good idea about renting the lead. Quote
swifty Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 I agree with gregers thats a good idea, could still throw in the wine-gums. Cheers Swiftie Quote
George106 Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 oi im not as old as i look.........................oh sod it forgot wot i was going to say :( thats a good idea about renting the lead. Hi guys, I am also interested at this feature ..... and have one serial vag com lead spare for lending if needed..... Just let me know and I can lend this piece of hardware :D . Anyway if you find way "how to" enable this feature through VDS-Pro I would be over the moon. I already managed to activate some additional CL features through this software. George Quote
Mirez Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I agree with gregers thats a good idea, could still throw in the wine-gums. Cheers Swiftie Well its worked well in the past but needed a deposit to ensure it comes back! For example, the last one we did was a Visteon diagnostic cable (for fords clusters) - Rented it for a 2 week period for Quote
Jayton Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 If you could do a write up on how to do it that would be fab Mirez! :( Quote
davec Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I'd be up for a go as well especially if you included your lighting trick will pay extra winegums :-) Quote
JRWR Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 What sort of cable is needed to do this? Would something like this: Ebay Item suitable? Or this: Another ebay item which mentions VAG Tacho If it's ELM 327 (whatever that means) would that be suitable? What comms protocol is being used by these different software applications? Quote
Mirez Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 The top one looks like a generic OBD2 interface so wont work, the bottom one is a version of Vag-tacho - but a knockoff by the looks of it, the real thing is a little more then that :( and personally I wouldn't want anything even slightly dodgy being used when you are writing to EEPROMs! Quote
gregers Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) so for 30 quid do you get mirez included in the package? :D :D knowing me im bound to f... it up. :( Edited February 23, 2010 by gregers Quote

zorgman Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 can this be done with a mk1 tdi ive got vag tacho lead and vag com lead Quote
George106 Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 can this be done with a mk1 tdi ive got vag tacho lead and vag com lead Just wondering, would be possible to do these changes through VDS-Pro? I could use vag com cable for this..... Quote
Mirez Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 I doubt it can be done on the Mk1 cluster but you can send me the eep file and I'll take a look if you want. VDS Pro can't do it, you arn't talking to a VAG component but a VDO one - hence you need a different lead as comms arn't established the same way. Quote
Munter Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 I'm up for renting this too! I also heard you can change the lighting on the clocks so they flash on and the needles move when you turn ignition on. Is it also true you can turn the horn on when you remotely lock the car so it gives a little reassuring beep? Quote
Jayton Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Yes, you should be able to do the alarm arming 'chirp'. Quote
Mirez Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Ok well I'm still using it for a few more things at the moment but then I'll write a how-to and get this sorted for you guys  Quote
Jayton Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Can you also do the 0 - 60 timer? I know they're big cars but would be a nice 'feature' to show off with, especially when selling the car  I knew someone with an R32 who had it, not sure if it was standard on them. Quote

You mean the lap timer? Sort of, some seem to have it available to select and some don't - I'm still compiling a list as to what years can/can't but its looking likely there was a software revision around 2003 - probably when the front end was facelifted.
