Abs Light One

Hi all

 

My ABS light has come on and stayed on. I have checked and the CV rings are complete and not cracked or broken. I removed the two front connectors and cleaned them with switch cleaner, but so far no cure. I can only assume therfore I have a faulty sensor. I have seen in the FAQ's that there is a resistance difference that can highlight the faulty unit- but I am not clear as to how this is done. Can someone explain it simply for me?

AFAIK faulty abs sensors go more or less open circuit. IIRC a healthy ABS sensor has an approximate resistance of between 1k

and 1.5k ohms

Do I just test the plug end on the lead ? There appears to be 4 connections - which pins do I test?

They're shown as a two pin connection on the TIS.

 

Just try every combination with your multimeter. You are looking to find 1k - 1k5 between 2 pins, i.e. not open circuit or short circuit............

Well I have teste them and the Offside front has an open circuit - I went to the Ford Stealers and they quoted me

Well the part arrived yesterday afternoon. I then spent around an hour getting the old one out - The Allen bolt came out fine - the sensor itself would not budge. In the end I drilled it out - broke it itno pieces and extracted it and all the debris. Fitting the new one was a doddle - until I realised that they had sent the wrong sensor - the plug didn't match!! ( Yes and didn't I feel an absolute tosser for not checking before I took the old one out!) So feeling really fed up I decided to replce theplug on the end of the cable. I did this soldered the wires shrink wrapped etc and also put on the protective sleeve that has the locating ring (rubber thingy) fitted it this morning and voila!! it works.

So BJ is a happy bunny for now.

I seem to have the seem problem, I take it that your brakes worked fine enough thou the ABS light was on?

 

I have been told it could be the ABS PUMP but as the brake seem to work fine I believe it could be one of the sensors.

I am not an expert - but obviously the sensors and or fuses need looking at first. I actually checked the CV rings first - then the fuses( I hadn't realised I could!!) then using a multimeter and guided by Seatkid I checked the sensors - one came back as open circuit so I then obtained a new one and after a lot of farting around changing the plug fitted it and everthing is back to normal.
