sumbler Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 HELP ... I have a 2001 Ford Galaxy 2.8 Ghia Auto, the cruise control is not working. I have had the control stalk on the steering column replaced and also the switch under the foot pedal. I was advised that the system operates on a vacuum pump which is located behind the NSF headlight. This is NOT the case as according to Ford my car was "on the change" and uses an electronic system. I am advised by Ford that I may need a new EMS or a chip replaced at an extorsionate cost. ANY IDEAS PLEASE?. Thanks. Quote
insider Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 The 2.8 engine is a VW unit and the speed is controlled electronically by the ECU. Only the 2.3 Ford engine uses the vacuum pump for cruise control.I would check the wiring from the stalk switch to the ECU first to confirm there isn't a break somewhere. With VAG-COM connected the operation of the switches can be checked.Which pedal switch was replaced, brake or clutch? Both switches can disengage C/C so the other one might need replacing too.Replacing the ECU should be the last, most expensive resort. Quote
zorgman Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 try this. over 30mph on a nice road put your foot under the clutch and lift it up then try cruise control see if it works done a few of these faults now. to fix it get a bit of plastic etc about 5mm thick put some super glue or similar on placcy bit clag it to the clutch pedal where the switch hits it, saves money and takes a few mins to fix.if not it needs to go on vag com so the sensors can be checked binary bits are 1 = on 0=off thatll pinpoint it, these main dealers are getting worse at thinking what the fault is rather than knowing what the fault is and its at your expense Quote
