Trislander Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 I think I've found a decent priced recon engine for my mark 2 now I'm no sucker but the seems genuine and it's from a VW salvage centreMy current knackered engine is AUY 115bhp but the engine avail is AWX 130bhp he believes it won't be a problem and has done many a galaxy engine in his time. The only thing he said to check out would be the position on the crankshaft which being not mechanically minded I need my mechanic to confirmAny thoughts please? Quote
insanitybeard Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 I'm not sure on this but if you are fitting an engine of a different code and power output, there's a very good chance the engine management will be different or at least calibrated differently- does the seller have the ecu and possibly wiring to go with the engine? If not I doubt it will be as simple as 'plug and play'. Quote
Trislander Posted November 28, 2013 Author Report Posted November 28, 2013 Hmmmmm wayyyyyy too technical now lol He's on his lunch break waiting for a call back now ill ask but he seems very confident all will be ok and it does appear to be a very good reputable company Quote
insanitybeard Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 Well, put it this way..... if the engine has a different power output it could be down to several things...... different turbochargers, different injectors, different camshaft etc etc, but I would be very surprised if the engine management setup was exactly the same for engines of different power outputs. I stand to be corrected because I do not know for sure regarding the PD engines in particular, but for the reason above I would be surprised if the engine management was the same for all power output variations! Trislander Posted November 28, 2013 Author Report Posted November 28, 2013 Have spoken to the chap again he has reassured me the engine is suitable for mine fingers crossed Quote
chrispb123456 Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Also check the bracket for the air charge pipe is present on the sump, as it may not have the drillings for it, although it can probably be swapped over with your old one. Quote
Trislander Posted November 30, 2013 Author Report Posted November 30, 2013 Have now bought this engine and work will begin Monday fingers crossed all goes well Quote
sasquartch Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 One drawback is that you should really tell your insurance company - as the car is now modified from standard there might be a loading on the premium. Quote
daddyfixit Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 did you get it from bootle ? Quote
seatkid Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 hope you got the AWX ecu with it, I doubt your old AUY ecu will work with it... Quote
Trislander Posted December 7, 2013 Author Report Posted December 7, 2013 So far so good with this new engine Quote
