Help needed with Galaxy 2.3 V6 GLX

It is reving at near to 2000 when stopping at junctions etc. It loses power and 'judders' as if fuel isn't getting through, then all of a sudden the power comes back and it speeds up. Sometimes it feels as if it speeds up on its own! Smells of petrol. Checked the wires to the fuel pump, all seems ok. Fuel gauge sometimes jumps up and down.

Plays up alot after its been parked up over night, then drives ok for a while, then does the above, on and off through out the journey, more so on hills.

Any ideas anyone

sounds like a engine management problem, the ECU takes readings from various sensors then controls idle and fuel injection. Also check for air leaks (split pipes) and the Lambda sensor on the exhaust as that send signals to the ecu with Air/fuel readings

they only made a 2.8 V6 (VWVR6) if yours is a 2.3 it is a 4 cylinder 16v DOHC Ford engine

Hi, thanks for the reply. My galaxy is a 2.3 but it does have V6 on the rear of the car! So we just assumed it was a v6. After checking, my hubby says it is just a 4 cylinder. He has found a split in the pipe and taped it up, would that be good enough or would it be better to get another pipe?

Many thanks

Didnt seem to run better with just the pipe taped up! We have disconnected the Lambda sensor and took it out for a drive, it didn't play up, but sometimes it drives ok, so not sure if that has cured it. Going to take it out this morning as it usually does it first thing in a morning. If it doesn't mess around then i'm pretty sure it is the sensor. We are selling it so i'm going to get a sensor from the scrap yard and see if that helps. Thanks for your input.

I appreciate you are going to sell the car, but for a small outlay ? New plugs, Oil change and new fuel filter might fix the problem ? and if you get the car running correctly you might get your asking price ;-)

here is a shortcut to my fuel filter post (the car was running like yours !)
