Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 This is safety-related - bite the bullet and buy a new mechanism. I had the same problem with my Rover 820 - the wiper mechanism on that is badly designed and the driver's side ball joint also wears and falls apart. I wrote to Rover and complained and they arranged for a complete mechanism to be supplied and fitted out of warranty at no cost to me. Could be worth you doing the same with Ford. Quote
Topbloke Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 there is a short term fix. if the ball joint is okay and the nylon bush is worn you can purchase some metal putty put the bush on the ball and put some putty around the nylon bush i use this stuff all the time you can drill it mould it it has loads of use's (no i don't have shares with the maker) .this may bye you some time until you can source a cheaper unit Quote
Nick Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 I drilled a hole thru the nylon base and bottom of the ball, then used a self tap screew to hold the ball joint together. You need to leave the screw long so as to get some movement in the ball. So far so good! May not be a long term fix, time will tell. Quote
