Guest gooner52 Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 well been out most of the day and this post as gone mad,i was a member of the ffoc/imoc/mr2oc different cars, more people doing mods, more peeps wanting to show there cars, and go to monthly and weekly meets ie mr2oc have a monthly meet at bluewater, which i was always up for becuase it was onlydown the road seems there is not many members around the kent/surrey/selondon areas on here :D its quite clear things are changing on the fgf(fordgalaxyforum) but where talking a total different age groupe, where all people want in the main is a little help ,with there gal. yes my gal looks a bit different which i love, and would also like to go to some meets..would be great but there are some on here, which only want to put a spanner in the works( ) at the same time peeps,do have other things to do,and might not want to go down this route which is also kool,as thats what the forum is all about helpin each other, but just of l8,seems a few just want to upset some members.. i think it will be great to have a o/c as well as the forum both are needed in my view :D :D :D :D :D Quote
anadin Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 well done to those that went , dont let the grumps! spoil your enthusiasm, what benefits the club benefits us all  Quote
Bigjeeze Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I'm glad you had a good time - as has been said it's not for everyone but that shouldn't stop those who want to. I think a very good idea would be for us all to subscribe to buy mumof4 a bloody sat nav system!! She really travels the world!! Quote
anadin Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 a sat nav , noooo it spoils the fun  :D :D Quote

I think SOP is .... when lost - Phone Neil - He posts here telling us all - follows up with post telling us not to mention getting lost when she arrives later ..... much later  :D Quote
mumof4 Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 least i made it home :D ..was looking very doubtful at one point! Not a journey id care to repeat in a hurry though. :D As for member meets..i know its not for everyone..but cant you see the potential?the wider picture? The practical hands on help that could happen at regional meets..Im not saying that they have to happen every month..just as and when.. I know that basically yes we are an older generation of drivers compared to the focus clubs etcc...but why should that stop us?yes we have families..we have commitments.....but surely a couple of hours one day every now and then isnt a lot? Bigjeeze Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I'm already a member of the Salvation Army, the Witches of Eastwick and the Boy Scouts - What more do you want woman!!! Quote

Guest 3.5bullet Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 which is also kool,as that's what the forum is all about helping each other, but just of l8,seems a few just want to upset some members.. i think it will be great to have a o/c as well as the forum both are needed in my view :D :D :D :D :D And how exactly do you suggest this happens? setting up an OC in most cases means having a closed forum solely for the viewing of the payed members! that would mean that the majority of the tech subjects, FAQ's and general helpful info would locked away from prying eyes :D this happens because the paying members want something for their money and need to feel superior to non paying members of the forum! so you want a closed forum? this was why the earlier break away OC/site died! that and the inability to make a decision, again very hard to do online in a chat room when the board is spread all over the country! ok, so mo4 would be willing to chair this OC, but would you let her loose with your cash and the decision making? nothing personal mo4 but you have trouble finding your way home and keeping a gold fish alive :D so running something like would possibly be a bit too much for you? then there is what do you want/expect from an owners club? stickers, badges, key rings, tee shirts, golf brolly's etc? access to dealer discounts, tech info, cheaper insurance? all these things need time and someone spending a lot of time to arrange and then you have pay for them, store them, sell them, ship them, and handle the returns and unhappy members! the people that run these things put in a lot of time and effort, all unpaid in most cases! ask bagpuss he knows all about it and the back biting behind the scenes! VW freaks are such bitches :D I could go on but there's a steak on the grill and a cold beer with my name on it calling me :D Quote
Guest galaxy99 Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 the volvo owners club i used to belong to had some members twice my age i was 24 then and they managed once amonth meets they'd goto theatre have meals and discuss not only cars but the coming year as a club they even had christmas do every year so doesn't matter what age you are, the idea i think is that everyone would get to know each other, and they haven't locked out there forum either. Quote
mumof4 Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I know all that you are saying 3.5....ive seen it all on the ffoc site where they have just changed from a non paying club to a paying one... One thing i dont want is this forum changeing to paid members...I dont want that at all.Information should be freely exchanged,,should not have to pay for it. I agree ..it would be too much for me...i would need help. What you have put is basically what i would like..but i dont want to have to collar the members for fees, there has to be way a round it. As you say..it all takes time, and effort. Also a lot of dedication! Quote
teresa Posted September 18, 2006 Author Report Posted September 18, 2006 hang on at least mumof4 didnt loose her way there that was my fault i got us lost  but thats the fun of it Quote
teresa Posted September 18, 2006 Author Report Posted September 18, 2006 we r just trying to say it would of been nice to see a few others there............ not necessarily to show their gals but even if they were just walkin about  Quote

This thread is now on topic or closed your choice. I've got to say this site has become very argumentative in the last couple of months  , if you were my kids you'd have had a slap by now(can I actually admit to that now?) Neil is dead right a lot of peeps are making multiple posts very personal, something they would never do face to face I bet. (although I don't think you should close the thread as the site becomes a bit big brother then). The holier than tho crowd need to chill out a bit, nobody's perfect. The slagging off of mjr about his towing was just bizzarre :D . Anyway back to the topic, theres no real need for discussion(and critisism) regarding meets is there. You either want to do it or you don't. Like many on here I would love to meet up and chat (apart from the fact that I don't have a Galaxy anymore but you could drool over my Picasso  ).Just like most on here I have about 5 minutes spare per week so actually getting to the meet would be unlikely, but why criticise/ berate those who want to promote/improve the site. Personally I think they are doing a great job. Who else on here would create, manufacture and send out stickers all for free.......no I didn't think of anyone either. Let them have their meetings, if it doesn't work out at least they have tried. Better to do that than do nowt at all. It's a bit along the lines of the daft 'quizzes' running in the 'nonesense' section, why not make a meeting section for people who want to do it. Those that are not interested don't go in to that section then and they relinquish the right to moan if they do.The Galaxy site is completly different to many other car forums when looking at the cross section of members. I would just set a set location and make it every first Sunday of the month or whatever. You will argue the toss forever about locations and times, just pick one, if you don't like it don't go. I would be very interested to see if the meetings became really popular and a good laugh how many of the none beleivers would go then. There is a grave danger of certain members not bothering posting for fear of being deemed to be in the 'wrong'. That would be a shame as the more the merrier when it comes to discussion. Quote

Right shall we shake hands and go back to a friendly forum. :D :) Quote
tim-spam Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 If you think that the FFOC is for a younger age group and not really relevant to Galaxy owners (which has got to have at least an element of truth - after all, the Galaxy shares virtually nothing with the Focus), why not try one of the many VWOC meetings - after all, the Galaxy is basically a VW with Ford badges. Quote
mumof4 Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 The FFOC has quite a few older members aswell as younger ones..that much we saw on Sunday... Ok so we share practically nothing with the Focus..but that does not matter...the admin and organisers of the FFOC club/show are more than happy to include our club in any of their meets. Just because we have hulks of cars and they have souped up ones (well most of them)..that does not mean that our clubs cannot interact. Quote
tim-spam Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 One thing I forgot to mention is that GSF, Eurocarparts, etc. attend many of the VWOC meetings, and there are often special deals to be had on spare parts, many of which are suitable for the Galaxy. Quote
mumof4 Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 Special deals..you know what..i had a load of info and deals given to me at the show on sun...one had 30% off..another had 20% off for our members..and this was stuff for the GALAXY.!..so we were catered for. Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 any chance of posting the discount info on the Best Deals board mum? :) Quote
mumof4 Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 i will once i have run them past glen as they would like to advertise on our site and that is something i cant authorise . Quote
mumof4 Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 Guess what i got through from billing today...A map!!..LMAO Quote
danyoda1 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 hey mumof4, i just spoke to a friend on the phone today. he has a focus and was at the ffoc at the weekend. he told me that a woman came over from the galaxy forum and was chatting to him. he's got a red focus thats modded and ice'd up. apparently the woman was impressed at his car and he told her about a friend with a galaxy thats "doing it up". he was given stickers and told to direct him to this site. long and short of the story is; i'm already a member!his focus is the focus on the first page of this post!he's on the picture of the tug of war!he's in his thirties, not forties! small world eh! lol!
