Guest rambo Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 hi all, took it upon myself to take my starter motor off and give it a clean and grease as it was quite noisy, when i dropped the plastic engine cover down to get at the starter i noticed a wheel laying on it with a bolt and washer :P i quickly saw where it had come from the bottom pulley which drives the air con pump, as i have had the car for 4 weeks the air con worked when i brought it then after a week it stopped working, i thought winter is coming sod it, so i bolted the pulley wheel back on where it had come from tightened it up tight started the car and it was squealing so i just done it up finger tight, stopped the squealing and the air con works hooray, but if i cant tighten it without it squealing surely it wont be long before it falls off again any ideas why it squeals when tight ??? a few pics off it Quote
anadin Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 dunno , is there a spacer that goes on first, stop it catching ?? Quote
seatkid Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 Your electromagnetic clutch has fallen apart. Likely there was also a shim type spacer in there. Seek professional help...... Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 That is the clutch plate for the AC compressor, with that in place and operating there is now more load on the drive belt and other pullys, are you sure it's that that is squeeling or is it the belt slipping or the tensioner pully? with the bolt loose the clutch is not engageing fully! it is slipping and reduceing the load on the belt, pullies etc, hence the lack of squeeling, this will kill the clutch plate very quickly! Guest rambo Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 it only squealed when the bolt was done up really tight, so i have now just nipped it up with a spanner while holding the wheel still with a screwdriver, i think it is now tight enough not to fall off again, and it aint squealing anymore, so i presume if you overtighten it it squeals, air con still working lovely, see how it goes eh ! there was a shim type spacer on the edge of the wheel, so i dont think there is any parts missing Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 Rambo The advice of get proffesional help has got to be taken here as, if the pulley seperates and shreds the belt you will be stranded Get a new one fitted asap and dont be tempted to travel any distance until you have unless your with the AA of course and have a few hours to spare. MrT Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 The air con clutch has to be set up using spacer washers to a specific air gap of 0.35-0.75mm for the FS10 compressor and 0.4-0.8mm for the Sanden. A new clutch from Ford will probably cost over Quote
Guest rambo Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 has anyone got an exploded diagram pic of the compressor and clutch components so i can see which parts it has, so i can check mine many thanx if someone can post a pic on here  Quote
