Just got a galaxy few weeks ago and found that the boot wont opened when the car is running and more annoyingly when turned off there seems to be a delay of 45-60secs before the boot door will open.

It a 99 TDI. Is this normal ?

two more issues i have - there are no lights on alarms when the vehicle is exited/locked

- if parked with the indicator arm in an on position results in the indicator lights staying on when exited/locked(is this a wiring/grounding problem)

Apart from this its a gem of a vehicle !

Any info appreciated. Thanks.

The delay on the tailgate opening is normally as a result of the drivers door switch being faulty, does the interior light work normally on the drivers door? if not then the switch may need replacing.

The flash on the alarm is an optional setting and it may not have been set up on the original vehicle, as for the lights staying on if you switch off and lock the doors with the indicator switch in an oprational position, this is a VW feature to allow parking lights to be displayed on one side of the vehicle and can be selected by the direction indicator stalk (a legal requirement in Germany when parking in an unlit area).

Hope this clears up some of the faults.

and Welcome by the way.

Does that mean the battery wont die overnite if the indicator lights are on ?

and the door switch, assuming its ok - then there should be no delay in the tailgate opening, is that right ?

thanks again.

The indicator use to supply power for the sidelights may reduce your battery if its not 100% but it is normal and as for the tailgate is all about security so no-one can open the tailgate if you are driving or stop at lights etc, it recognises if you open the door, in your case it dosent so the switch may not working.

with engine running either the drivers door/passenger door open = no delay if there is a delay then dorr switch probably u/s - try each door seperately
