Guest steven.tunnicliffe@lineone.net Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I've had my 52 plate 1.9Tdi Gal for just over three weeks now. Everything is Ok except that the fuel gauge is stuck on full. I took it into the garage where I bought it from to get it fixed as after two fill ups it's still the same.Whether this was an amazing co-incidence or a fiendish plot I don't know but when I took her in the service manager returned from the office with a piece of paper with a list of bullitins they must receive off Ford.It was dated 15th Oct and at the bottom of the list it stated that there was a problem with Fuel Gauges on the Galaxy, 'readings inadequate' or working incorrectly and that no repair was to be attempted and to await further info from Ford as to the likely solution. The range was from year 2000 upwards but I'm not sure whether it is across all the range. I find it curious that nobody else has had a problem with their gauges, however this may open the floodgates.Anyway this may be an early heads up on an impending recall(?) or maybe for those who like to take their tank to the red line on the fuel gauge be aware it (the gauge) may be lying. I shall await the phone call from the garage and keep you informed with the developements. B) Quote
NikpV Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Well I posted this : Slow fuel gauge reading .....Hi Anybody have this problem - its only happen a couple of times, just had a new instrument module due to 'Check pad' warning coming on (under warranty) now they want to change it again Any thoughts on the 12 october My gal went in today to have a new instrument cluster - got a phone call at lunchtime saying they put the new one in and it went crazy - registered 160 kph when pulling away!! They then checked the broadcasts they get with TIS and sure enough they have been intructed NOT to replace any nore instrument clusters due to an unresolved problem. Its funny my Gal had this problem with the fuel gauge & incorrect door indentification on the previous cluster but I've not seen any other posts about it - on mine it takes up to 30 mins to read correctly when the tank is judt less than half full but only on chilly mornings!I am also now waiting for a call from the garage. NikpV Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 God sorry about the spelling in my previous - must be getting tired. I can confirm the 'Broadcast' 'readings inadequate' or working incorrectly and that no repair was to be attempted and to await further info from Ford as to the likely solution this was what I was told - They were pretty peeved since they had to put back the old cluster and they said that Ford wouldn't pay them for the time since they had been told not to do it!! Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Might this instrument panel problem also be the cause of the non-working cruise control lamp on many of our cars (see separate thread)? Quote
Guest steven.tunnicliffe@lineone.net Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 All of you guts seem to have a Ghia which is different to my Zetec instrument cluster.I hope to goodness they don't have to strip anything out from the dashboard...I can see it now, some unsupervised appo with a screwdriver and tyre lever 'easing' the dash apart :D B) :D :o :o :o Please tell me it might be the tank sensor. Sorry NikpV I didn't connect your problem with mine as it's stuck on full all the time, I have now worked out I'm getting at least 6,000miles to the gallon! :D I'm glad the story has been confirmed and await the results of the Ford investigation. Guest steven.tunnicliffe@lineone.net Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Sorry, I meant to say 'guys' not guts...not that I have anything against guts, I'm nurturing a very healthy round one myself! B) Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 The instrument cluster (pod) comes out easily. For a change. On the later models, steering wheel off or out and down, bottom cowl off, then two screws undone from underneath. Pod comes forward, disconnect looms (no speedo cable) and Robert is definitely related to your father.... Quote
NikpV Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 No problem - its a odd sort of relief to find that others have the same problems I was beginning to worry that the fuel gauge problem was unique B) I have had the cluster (or pod) changed once already, the mechanic agreed with SA in that its a simple job but they still forgot to re-program the fuel computer! Do all trim levels have the fuel computer because if not the mechanic implied that its always present :D NikPv Quote
