They advise you as to which version of software to download for the lead you buy. It works fine and is alot cheaper than the thing. Quote
dipsomaniac Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 to be guaranteed support and the full version you need to buy from Ross Tech. if you are buying a 'dumb' lead off eBay you need to download version 409.1 of vag-com. i haven't been able to get my DUMB lead to communicate with the software yet but i am sure it is possible as they wouldn't have such a high feedback. you're not in gloucester are you daveograve? which version of vag-com did you download? I'm in London! I'm using 409.1. Don't know how far you've got with your lead, but remember even though its usb, it is really using the serial connections. So you need to have it on com ports 1,2,3 or 4. Also it won't show as connected until you plug it into your car and the computer. Hope this helps. Quote
wood73 Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 with my lead i had to download kkl drivers, then plugged into car with ign on and set to com 4.works but with limited functions as it is not registered Quote
JohnR Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 with my lead i had to download kkl drivers, then plugged into car with ign on and set to com 4.works but with limited functions as it is not registered I'm looking to get the Rosstech key-usb kit....but how come on the website it makes no mention anywhere of Ford compatibility?..........Are there any subtle differences in the coding on a Galaxy that you need to be aware of....or are all the fault codes and diagnostics 100% compatible with VW and Audi? Thanks, John Quote
Guest BagPuss Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Another one to try is:- DigiMoto Hardware & Software Package and Palmer Performance PCMSCAM Software Both an alternative to VAGCom and does the same thing really. And very affordable! Quote

I've got a USB KKL cable on ebay....now whats the most functional shareware? How does the Digimoto Lite compare with the Vagcom 409? Or is there something better for less than 100 quid (say)?? Any help appreciated, John Quote

Guest BagPuss Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 Yes, I did see that but it appears to be on US Cars I believe and is only related to a few.I've yet to try mine yet (Too many hours), but there is a new version out with the bug fix.Although this isn't officailly released yet it is available for those with problems to see if it can rectify any issues. Once out Outage finishes, which is 10 days away! YAY!!! I will try the software out and report my findings.Digimoto works a treat had no problems with that whatsoever. Just got to try PCMSCAN. Quote

I got my cable this morning:-http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 Finally got it working with Vagcom 409.1 (but only scans 01:engine and 03:ABS)?? Is this all you get for free?? I downloaded the PCMSCAN demo, and tried all the connection options without success. I'm waiting for them to get back to me. In the meantime, I'll see about a digimoto demo.... Cheers,John Quote
Guest BagPuss Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 JohnR, I had problems as well, but posted on the forum and got the reply:- Did you "Validate Pid's" ? If not, you need to go to PID Config (icon on left side at bottom). Then hit the button "Validate PIDs". This should update the PID's. Then you need to run the logger to read. This will make instruments and data to read. It's not as simple as DigiMoto which you simply plug and play. Quote

Looking at that possibly yes. Mine has got an extra box of tricks with it.So PC to Box, Box to ODBII Connector. Quote

Looking at that possibly yes. Mine has got an extra box of tricks with it.So PC to Box, Box to ODBII Connector. I just bit the bullet and forket out 99 dollars to register the Vagcom. Will try it tomorrow and report back. The cable isnt totally "dumb"...there is a pcb in the housing of the 1962 connector....could just be opto-isolation I suppose.... It does say its protected against the oem radio short problem. In any case, I think the vagcom stuff gives you more functionality than the pure ODBII based ones, albeit not presented in such a nice way and more difficult to interpret. John Quote
