Guest Alistair Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Hi, I tried to changed my ICE HU and come over a problem. The new unit worked for 3-5 minutes then stopped. the old unit will now only work if i press the button on the front of the unit. i.e. no longer comes on and off with the ignition. I have tried other units and the issue is with the car as the new unit works fine on my other car. i think it is the swicthed live (maybe using the wrong terminology) I have checked the fuse in the fuse box which is OK and checked the inline fuse which also seems to be OK. I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions? Quote
seatkid Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Find the switched live wire to your HU, check it for (switched) 12v with a meter (or a bulb)....and start tracing backwards to the ignition switch. Its probably a fuse but I don't have my ball out today :25: to guess your car model, year, colour, etc etc :P Quote

muffking Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 By black box he means the ignition switch, but you definately need to get a multimeter to the stereo supply wires and check the permanent and ignition supplies. If one of them is dead then let us know and we can tell you what to check. I had a similar problem on my '52 plate Galaxy where it would only stay on for 1 hour even when driving. Turned out to be a blown ignition supply fuse caused by a dodgy FM headphone transitter that I fitted in the boot after tapping into the supply wire (silly me left the charger wire hanging and it shorted out).
