strouf Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Hi all ! I 've noticed that when the ign. switch is on (regardless of engine running or not ), there is a quiet buzz, (sounds like an electric motor) coming from behind the cc controls ! Turn the key off, it stops. It's not the air blower, it's something much smaller. I'm sure the noise wasn't there last week. Is there any motor in that area ? Or , if not a motor ,any other ideas ? Hi it sounds like it may be the run on pump - it's a small electrical pump that sits on the bulkhead behind the head in the engine bay. It ensures the coolant circultates for a while to prevent hotspots. There are quite a lot of posts on it. Quote
Vanbursta Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Its a fan inside the CC unit, it draws in air and passes it over a sensor so the CC knows the internal temp of the car, nothing to worry about and perfectly normal, if you look closely at the CC panel you will see a small grille (I think it's on the top left), that's the grille that the fan sits behind. You can take it apart and clean the fan, BUT it is very fiddly and you have to be extremely careful not to break any of the clips holding the CC cover together. Quote
MrT Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 I understand there is a miniature fan behind the tiny grills at either side of the climate control which suck in air to monitor its temperature. Dust collecting on the fan blades can cause noise. Quote

El Dingo Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Hi Strouf! Bigjeeze is right - check in the engine bay. These auxilliary coolant pumps can fail (as mine did) and on the way out start making more noise. But if it's really the little fan behind the climate control, to be honest I've never actually heard one, they are so quiet. If you smoke, put your cigarette near the panel and see if the smoke gets sucked in. (BTW regards from El Gato) Quote
strouf Posted September 12, 2006 Author Report Posted September 12, 2006 Thanks again, it's not the coolant pump, as it stops when the key is removed, and it's not so loud. Will try the cigarette test, though I smoke a cigar every now and then. Let's hope the Missus doesn't find out, or I'm in trouble !!! Greetings recieved , thanks java script:emoticon(':)', 'smid_18');) Quote
Vanbursta Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 I do agree that it's VERY quiet, but once you notice it, it will drive you nuts! They all do it, even my previous Scorpio did it, so does my mates Galaxy and even my own Galaxy, people don't generally notice it, but like I said once you do hear it...................... Quote
