Guest gooner52 Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 oh yes gooner the weight alone holds it nicely in placeit must weigh at least 5 stonemade out of 18mm MDF are you constructing a sub enclosure for your jbl 12s ? was looking @ 12ich twin sub boxes on ebay as only have single boxes at the moment Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 matt jr is your sub box you got from your mate the right size enclosure for your sub if its not you will lose loads of performance from it ? ...well, i assumed it is the correct size, as he had a 12inch in it...and the whole set came together from a shop. As any woman will tell you, Its not the size that counts......its the way you use it!  when i wrote that, i was thinking along the same lines  :( I know I'm getting grumpy in my old age ! MJR Quote
Guest rambo Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 gooner looking on ebay for a twin box is not ideal as the box has to be exactly the right size to suit your subsif you look on the jbl website for your subs open up the user manual and it will tell you exactly what size box you need to make find, any probs let me know, a ported box will sound twice as loud as a sealed box, i can knock you up a design if you wish to build one yourself its not hard ? matt jr although your sub and box came from a shop i bet it is not the right size for your sub as the shop will just chuck it any 12" box, and i bet your box is sealed ? if you want bass you need a ported box mate sealed sub boxes are poo, the sub cant breathe and you lose half the bass you would get with a ported boxsee if you can find out the specs for your sub on the net from the retailer, should have on there website what size enclosure you need in cubic feet i.e. 12"x 12" x 12" is 1 cubic foot work it out on that basis or if you let me know what you find i can help you with a box Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 i know what you mean about the ported boxes thats why when i got my current ones bought the plastic port holes and fitted them myself which is what i intend to do again thanks for the offer :( Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Rambo - thanks for the insight,, i will have a look into it! MJR Quote
Guest rambo Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 gooner, puttng plastic tubes into a sealed box just wont do mate, as a ported box has to be virtually twice the size of a sealed box, and the length and diameter of the port has to be exactly correct to get the most from the sub / subs basically what i am trying to say is i can make a ported box with 1 x 12" sub in it, sound as good as, if not better than 2 x 12" subs in a sealed box i just hate the fact that loads of people get subs chuck them in any old box and get half the results they could have done, with a bit of knowledge/ help they would get there moneys worth for what they buy i will shut up now PORTED IS THE WAY TO GO, TRUST ME IVE BEEN THERE !!! (but all dimensions have to be right for the speaker thats in the box) i rest my case :( Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 no probs m8 will be in touch for some more info from you m8 cheers j :( Quote
steve67car Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 ? a ported box needs to be twice the size of a sealed ?not true and as for a single 12 in a ported box sounding twice as a double 12 in a sealed box again not true what is true is that a sub is only as good as the box that it is designed to be in e.g buy a vibe 12 " (yes it comes in a ported box ) take it out put in a std carpeted sealed 12 " from your hi fi specailist and it will sound ok but and its a big BUT it will not sound as good as it did in the vibe ported box and again not because its the ported box but because vibe spend a lot of time and money on development :excl: so make sure the sub is in the right type and size box  measure twice build once Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 ..once iv finished my install, and got my booster heater working, i will then set about the subwoofer box. MJR Quote
