Nige F Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 I am looking to change my 97 Galaxy Ghia X 2.3 for a newer diesel model. All Galaxys I have seen seem to have highish miles. Have seen a Alhambrsa SE 2000 model. How do the specs compare?. Do they have electric rear windows and quarter lights etc and how do spares availibilty and service compare to Ford Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Specs are generally better. The Alhambra is the best "bangs per buck" of the 3 marques. If you stick to SE spec, you get more than a Galaxy Ghia. The Sharan is the poorest in terms of standard kit. The S is particularly basic. The service standard and spares are the same as Ford - i.e. crap service, spares are identical in terms of availablity. The 3 share 90% of the parts bin. Only major differences tend to be external lights, ICE and engines/boxes of the petrol range only. Quote
iainkirk Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Galaxies receive much larger discounts (they're too expensive to start with!!), so more bangs per buck at best prices in my opinion. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Very dependant on prevailing deals... I pitched VW v. Ford v. Seat back in Feb this year Same spec car (ish) 130ps TDi VW: Quote
HJT Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Seat also seems better value secondhand. The VW hold their value much more as the VW badge is seen as more prestigeous. Ford and Seat seem to drop similar amounts, maybe the Seat slightly more as it still (wrongly IMO) tends to carry the stigma of a more budget motor company.I went for the Ford mainly because my small local Ford Dealer is quite good and I haven't heard anything good about my local Seat dealer. Also as a matter of personal taste, I prefer the look of the Galaxy over the Seat and VW. Howard Quote
Guest lucky-charmer Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 a note on one of your concernse about high milage diesals, dont worry about it,if its been serviced all its life the turbo is quiet no rattels from the engine they will go for ever dont beleave any of the satistics on milage as its only a number, if you are happy with the car and you get it for a reduced price because of the milage, consider how maney yourself you will put on it and how long you want to keep the car, if its for the life of it then it shouldnt matter, i got mine on a V,99 plate 2 years ago 95k on the clock ghai x tdi 110 the engine is sound its had its cam belt done fsh 1 owner nice spec i paid Quote
