My Tdi diesal 1.9 starts Ok when cold(morning) with coil light coming on as normal but coil light disappears when car is warmed up after a good run. This coil light symbol will not reappear for aprox 5-10 minutes thus preventing from re starting the car untill a 5-10 minute rest.

Went to garage and the fancy computer said the problem was "intermittent feed to fuel cut off valve" but somebody else on this site with similar problem said it was a faulty RELAY under dash.

Are these 2 answers connected?please help me to decide which road to take.

Thanks.

which relay are you looking for ?

to check the glow plug relay pull the plug off the temp sender and put a test light between the glowplug and supply if it lights then the relay is sending power to the plugs. i think this is correct . im not sure if the light on the dash should glow when the engine is hot, and these engines generally start well without glowplugs when cold. it seems odd that you cant restart the car for 10mins after switching off.

there is a ford glowplug relay on ebay for sale if this is your problem

if you do the test i mentioned then that will tell you if the relay is working ok as it will be supplying the plugs when cold and they dont need to work when hot, the relay is no.36 on the 2nd or 3rd row of the fuse box by the drivers knee. a pig of a job but there are some mentions on here of how to do. i think 36 is the original relay no. but if a new one has been fitted at any time it may have a different no. on. a bit confusing.

i can fathom why the car wont start when hot as the plugs arnt needed , we had a similar prob with the same car , there was a lot of air getting in, have you looked at that possibility ? the fuel filter and pipes near the pump and the small bleed off pipes on ours very tatty and by wiggling them air could be seen.

i think my info is correct but if not im sure some expert will put us both right

not sure where the link is but the when you open the fuse panal the first one you see is all the fuses, if you can imagine its a 3 layered box the first layer is the first you can see, you have to cut a few cable ties and release a few clips and it flops down to reveal the layer underneath and again then for layer 3. its a messy job that you cant rush. will try and find the info i looked at and let you know

type in the search box fuse box and it wilol take you to a page of questions, the forth one down titled relay 30 repalcement i think, clik on that and although its a mk2 you will see some kind chap has photoed the whole split down procedure be sure its that at fault though as its a long job that could prove a waste of ti,e

The fuel cut off valve is fed from the diesel distributor pump via a white/black wire. Locate pump (front of engine) and check the connector and wire. This wire runs back to the ECU and then back to the fuel cut off valve at the front of the engine.

As the ECU is detecting intermittent feed the problem is either between the pump and the ECU, or in the pump or the loom/connectors to the pump / ECU
