Guest Paul Collins Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 I've just temporarily installed aftermarket parking sensors (well it was only a small bump :D ) The manual gives a height range off the floor to mount the sensors, but the bumper is a bit low for this. I've attached to the bumper for now, but I do get a few false beeps. Has anyone mounted onto the tailgate, bearing in mind that the bumper would the sheild the sensors' view a little bit? Paul Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 I would not suggest mounting them in the tailgate! Not only will the bumper mask their "sight" but you'll have to mount them a little bit up from the flange at the base of the tailgate. Plus, you'll have to pass teh wire through from the body to the tailgate and we know that this is an area where wires often break....The Gal's rear bumper is not THAT low, surely these sensors should be suitable for mounting on the rear bumper? Have you got 2 or 4 sensors? Could try mounting 2, one each side on the corner part of the bumper under the rear light clusters. Quote
Guest Paul Collins Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 That's what I was thinking. The instructions set a height range of 550mm to 700mm. The highest point on the bumper that I can mount them is 510mm. Maybe I'll try mounting them slightly angled upwards, so that more of the sight will be off the floor. Paul Quote
Guest Paul Collins Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 After seeing some parking sensors on Ebay, where the instructions suggested mounting the sensors on the tailgate, I taped my sensors to the tailgate today and reversed up my usual obstacle course (my drive is at the end of a row of five, so I reverse 50m). No false readings and I reversed up to 9 inches from my wheelie bin! Proper fitting took a couple of hours, trying to find a way to keep the wires inside the tailgate shell, (they won't fit), but now the display is visible in the mirror, rather than just hearing the beeps. The best couple of hours spent on the car - I just wish it was warmer  Quote
Guest Boggler Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 If you've got the PDC200, I'ver got the same. Mine are mounted on the tailgate. just below a line rom the bottom of the opening handle, 90cm apart. I've had them there for about three years with no problems, I also have a towhitch, which does not effect them. Mounting them on the tailgate also makes it easy because you can easily connect to the reverse light, and I've also mounted the actual unit in the rear window, beside the high level brake light, which means it is visible both when I'm looking over my shoulder and in the rear view mirror. By the way any of you living "darn souff" a guy at Blackbushe was selling the PDC200's for Quote
