Guest Yamas Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Hi, My galaxy just started leaking water, loads of it. About a litter per 15 miles. But what is really stange is that it is not over heating, i can't see anywhere where it is dripping and there seems to be little pressure when I take the water cap off. A friend reacons it might be a new water cap, and my brother reacons a leaking radiator, but as i said i can't seem to see anything, mind you it difficult to see anything in the engine bay. cheers for reading Quote
tiny Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 What engine is it (Please add the exact model of car to your signature) Check the oil, is there any greyish emulsified oil in the dip stick tube or under the filler cap? Possible engine oil cooler fault, leaking water into the oil(diesel only), or Head Gasket leaking between Cooling system and oil galleries. Is there water or steam coming out of the exhaust when the engines running? Possible head Gasket failure although I would have thought this is unlikely as its not pressuring your cooling system. Or check the carpets, are they wet? could be a heater matrix Using that much water is a lot! I wouldnt drive it until youve got to the bottom of the problem, you could end up seriously damaging your engine. Quote
sepulchrave Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 To stand any kind of chance of helping you we're gonna need to know EXACTLY what car you have. Quote
anadin Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 hi, its got to be going somewhere, leave it ticking over on a level drive check when hot , as hairline cracks will open and the pressure will force it to come out, caps are common- porous rads- water pump, head gasket, could be any Quote
dipsomaniac Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 you wouldn't lose that much through the expansion cap. if not head gasket, most likely places that the system is leaking - waterpump, radiator, thermostat housing and heater matrix. Quote
