mumof4 Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 no offence, MO4, thats just an example.....I know you are "man" enough to take the joke......however there is a small number of members who not only do not have a sense of humour but give dubious technical advice... :16: :16: No offence taken....I know as much about electrics as i do about the exhaust system!!..Which isnt a lot!! :16: :D Quote
Dave-G Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Fair point you have there seatkid, and if it were a strictly technical question~answer~opinion~gripe, about the merits of the shalaxy type forum I would agree with you entirely mate. And I'm sure that's how and why it first materialised. I have to admit how surprised I am that my 3 word story has interested people for so long. Perhaps it's something of a welcome distraction to what might otherwise be a mundane boring old firts forum (And I am boring and old, and firt frequently too  ) The fact that it's been viewed much more than contributed to does however suggest that many people fing it amusing even though they dont contribute? It may also be a rather silly excuse for someone who may not have a faulty car or other reason to visit this site and browse other topics within it? As for your input - I have found it invaluable, but lacking lately? maybe as a result of your despair about my thread - I dunno mate, even the way you sometimes deliberatly fail to answer a question that should have a blindingly obvious answer to someone who should be able to work it out themselves is a pleasing characteristic of yours. There are many other members that have been just as helpfull, they seem to have mostly gone, be it from changing their cars or career comittments - or possibly left because the threads are getting less technical, perhaps because many of the questions are now covered by stickies? Quote
mumof4 Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 I must admit that i do search alot rather than look at the pinned threads..Call it the satisfaction of finding the info myself and acting upon it.Though the stickies do have their uses for people who have to have an answer quick be it to get the car back on the road asap or wanting info that they can query various garages with. Dave-G Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 In fairness to seatkid, and being an old grump myself :16: , I felt just about the same as him as I became more interested in another (non motoring) forum and the new posts were mostly nothing to do with that forum subject. I even made a comment to that fact and got flamed...big time... it's nowhere near as polite as this one. I now go to the forum section I wish to browse rather than new posts. So if you only wish to check say the new technical posts - go to the technical section and look for the blue lablel that indicates a new post has been made. The new posts since last visit can also have bold font if Glen would like to look into that? Quote
RADIOTWO Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 but did u view results first...You have just repeated yourself really and not answered the question..If you have a problem with a poll then yopu should have asked for help and not go round saying that we fix the polls. They cant be fixed.Yes I did repeat myself, but I said, I read the post, but did not view the poll and that was when I noticed the statment "You have already voted in this poll" Radiotwo Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Have to agree with Dave-G - its like people that complain about things on TV - switch to another channel! Seatkid, from what I've found though, any dubious technical advice given is usually followed up by less than dubious advice by someone that knows what they are talking about. And so the discussion ensues - which usually results in the requestor gaining a resolution to their problem. Thats what this place is here for IMO. Somebody trying to give a solution to someones problem (albeit dubious) shouldn't be flamed any more than someone complaining about post-whores. Everyone has different angles of dealing with things. On the whole we're all here for the common good, does it matter about the road taken to get there? Quote
gregers Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 i should imagine that since this site has been up and running that there cant me too many more posts about the galaxy that havnt been covered before hence that there is a search button for us all too use if needed,in the 3 years ive been on this forum it has changed an awful lot some may say for the worse, personally i think it has become alot friendlier and funnier site(this is my own humble opinion)i have as much knowlegde of motor cars as i do women(i can never suss them out).perhaps all the experts could put on there signitures how experienced they are,in terms of mechanical, electrical or hysterical,i have always appreciated all help i have recieved no matter friom whom has given it,at the end of the day this forum helps numerous people with info and helps keep a lot more money in all of our pockets.no doubt there will be numerous other changes on this forum as time goes by,you either accept it or you dont . kindest regards gregers Quote
Guest MATT Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I say no. That kind of hierarchy does not fit here, you Quote
mumof4 Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 hello MATT and thank you. :) where do you keep hiding!! :D Quote
Guest MATT Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Its a secret! Only just got back from spain and had a million and one things to do! MATT Quote

Guest MATT Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 It was FANTASTIC! We both fully enjoyed it, and will be doing it again next year. We drove over a rather tall bridge, as seen on top gear! MATT Quote
El Dingo Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I nulled my vote. I will say that IMHO the forum is better since the moderators were appointed. As for the 'three word joke', that's what General Discussion and Nonsense is for, isn't it? Keeps the silly stuff out of the techy bits. Kind regards, Quote
soptom Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I have to admit how surprised I am that my 3 word story has interested people for so long. fact that it's been viewed much more than contributed to does however suggest that many people fing it amusing even though they dont contribute? I've already said my bit about this generally here, but to answer this specific point you made, the fact that it's been viewed far more than contributed to could also be down to the totally ambiguous tital you gave the thread (if you've got nowt to do), people are naturally intrigued, but when they see the subject, they aren't interested. Quote
Dave-G Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Soptom "If you've got now't to do" was the main title, followed by "have some fun" in the sub title, and this was in the... "General Discussion and Nonsense" forum, yes it's underlined too :D How much more of a clue does anyone need that it would be of little interest to people with no interest in a silly bit of nonsense? http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showforum=62 This takes anyone immediately to the technical section so they don't get any distractions :) Now be warned and do not feel mis-led in any way now.... I'm starting another frivolous bit of nonsense in the forum that some of you dis-like...SO DON'T LOOK :D Quote
soptom Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 No need to chuck your toys out of the pram Dave, like I pointed out, I only get annoyed when the tech subjects get silly, I've no problem with any other sections, I was merely pointing out that your title was ambiguous and thus the reason people looked but didn't post could be different to your reason. Quote
Dave-G Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 No toys or dummies chucked out mate - just curious why you joined something out of the tech section - given your post activity, if it wern't in any tech post  Quote
