Guest Editor Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 Hi Newbie here. Been doing my research into the new houndmobile & as I can't afford a VW Charavelle of any description I'm mainly looking at Galaxy etc. Went to see a dealer this morning & he SAYS he has a defleet of ex airport Galaxies incoming in the next 10 days. Apparently 05, between 90 & 100k, FSH, not the leather, diesel, manual. About Quote
iainkirk Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 "Ex-airport" and 90-100k miles says "Taxi" to me... Seriously though, that mileage on year-old vehicles will surely take it's toll. I would suspect that the 'usual' warranty repairs (drop links, spare wheel carrier, aircon, leaks etc) won't have been done and the warranty has been and gone. You're also probably looking at potential gearbox problems, worn out brake discs all round, CV joints, flywheel, clutch etc.. Quote
Guest Editor Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 OK. Yes, it has to be a taxi or staff carrier! I used to work at Heathrow & BAA won't even rent you office space unless you have vehicles that are to their spec & service stipulation, so although for 'normal' taxis I'd agree, the fact that (& the dealer did say it was a BAA endorsed fleet) makes me pretty sure that they'll have to have been serviced on the button & any odd fixed immediately. I was quite reassured in fact! Yes, figured for a clutch change, prob discs & pads & a service. I quite liked the airport run seeing as to have done that mileage they probably have never got cold-so in my book that's an excellent thing. As usual new high mileage is vastly better than old low mileage. Dealer says it comes with a 1 years warranty-prob rubbish mechanical insurance job. Only decent warranty I've ever had was a VAG one. Easier to list the handful of things NOT included & I did need to use it & it was just painless. I'll have a poke around autotrader later today. Just read your sig? What on earth makes a flywheel need replacing?? Just wanted to know if they're having a laugh, or it's a good one. Dealer seems to rubbing his hands over the cashflow-truly reckons they'll be gone in a blink. Me, I assume nothing & trust not much! Thanks very much. Have a lunchtime drink & a sani on me! Quote
iainkirk Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 What on earth makes a flywheel need replacing?? Flywheel is a two-part affair and mine had become a 1-part affair. Not included in recent recall unfortunately, as that only applies to 130's. Found to be knackered whilst other work was being done (witnessed it come out of the car myself). Went in for a CV joint and exhaust replacement, came out 3 weeks later with the dealer having 'spent' over Quote
