shepheap Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 Just replaced the noisey Dunlop 2020s on the front of mine. Had intended to go via mytyres.co.uk (3% forum discount available - see seperate posts) for the Fortuna F2000 215/55 r16 97W XL at about Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 that seems to good to be true - are you sure the tyres are reinforced? - must have reinforced on a galaxy - else a blow out is only round the corner... MJR Quote
keith9534 Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 that seems to good to be true - are you sure the tyres are reinforced? - must have reinforced on a galaxy - else a blow out is only round the corner... MJR Can you point me in the right direction where this information comes from? I looked in the handbook to see if it said specifically that the tyres must be re-inforced but couldn`t find anything! Is there any way of telling from the tyre that its the correct one? Quote
shepheap Posted August 28, 2006 Author Report Posted August 28, 2006 The reinforced part comes from the need to carry extra load. When the Galaxy first came out they were not required, but there was a recall and they all had to have reinforced/extra load tyres fitted (so my Ford dealer told me). The minimum load rating for the Gal tyres is 95 (eg 215/55 r16 97W ; where the 97 is a higher load capacity than 95 and W is the speed rating). The Fortunas are 97 and marked XL for eXtra Load! If you do a search on the forum for previous tyre threads you will see other similar explanations. Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 thats ded cheap then - might go that way later on... MJR Quote
pj_andrew Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Excellent! I need 2 new fronts (yet again!). Always gone for the Dunlops but they don't half wear out fast and Quote
BIGRUPE01 Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 hi all I need 2 new fronts as well i am shopping round for mine ? Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 www.mytyres.co.uk seems to be the place to go for a great deal and service (not to mention the 3% discount for forum members ... see top of this section for details) Members have reported good things about Nokians, Fortunas and Star Performer makes .... all saying that grip in wet and dry, wear and road noise is superior to the standard fit Dunlops. As noted in many posts on the forum, just make sure you get extra load (XL) or reinforced (RF) tyres as they are needed for the Gal. Happy Shopping! Quote
raymac Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Can anyone tell me if these fortunas are rotational or just the normal tread, thanks in advance  Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 The ones on mytyres are asymetrical .... optimises the benefits of directional and non-directional in the one tyre. Definitions of tread patterns HERE Quote
raymac Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 Thank you very much sir  Quote
