baz69 Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 been offered a deal on my mondeo for this apparantly its a 2.2diesel toyota estima lucida, just wondering wether to have adeal then sell it and buy a galaxy, but dont know anything about them Quote
katman Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Similar to Toyota Previa but slightly smaller. ALL ESTIMAS ARE IMPORTS !!!!! There are a lot of Japanese People Carriers that have been imported to sell as secondhand. Easy way to spot them is that the instruments are marked in KPH rather than MPH and they tend to have the mirror on the tailgate. Insurance can be difficult as body parts are difficult to obtain and the vehicle could be off the road for some time in the event of a prang. We looked at several Jap MPVs when were were looking for a people carrier. My insurance company wont cover imports and all the UK spec models we say were very high mileage and lower specification than the imports. Having said that, thre are quite a lot of them running about so you pays your money and takes your choice :) Quote

Insurance can be difficult as body parts are difficult to obtain and the vehicle could be off the road for some time in the event of a prang.... there are probably more suppliers of spares for these vehicles than there are for the Galaxy! you just have to know where to look to find them :) there are web site/forums dedicated to these vehicles with a following similer to this site with extremely knowledgable people on them that can help with most problems, and more that three people turn up to their get togethers :D http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c357/redneckl400/Meetinthemiddle7406023.jpg as for insuring them? we had no problem insureing my fathers Jap import :D infact it was cheaper than insureing my mother's Astra :) as for buying a estima and running one? well they are under powered and not the most economical TDI MPV out there! they are how ever well speced and the AC/CC will hardened the nipples on your 85 year old granny :) the things to watch out for are OE sat nav and entertainment systems, these will not work in the UK :) a band expander is required for the radio's and a total rip out and replacement required for the TV/DVD systems :D also as stated earlier the speedo's/trip display show KPH this can be changed to MPH easily enough by either changeing the clock faces or fitting a convertor, this is needed to done to get them through the SVA test so should already be done by the time you get the vehiclepersonally if your hearts set on a Galaxy I would walk away from this offer and wait till some colour blind chav buys your mondy :P and then buy the vehicle of your dreams :) Quote
