Guest forest Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Hi This is my first post, I have just happened across this forum, seems very interesting. Anyway I have recently purchased a Y reg 2.3 Ghia. Very pleased so far. I need to get some roof bars, tow bar etc sorted out. Can anyone please advise on the best tow bar to purchase, I think I read elsewhere that it could interfere with parking sensors. I also need to get roof bars and fixings, looked in Halfords today and they only sell Thule for the Galaxy, quite expensive, but are they worth the extra? Also have read a previous thread about cycle carrriers, I would like to carry 5 bikes, children are older now so they are all largish (bikes not children). We will need a roof box. Any advice would be welcome. Maybe we won't want to carry 5 bikes, tow a caravan and fill a roof box all at the same time. PS we are leaving granny at home!!! Quote
Guest Darren Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 look on ebay there is a towbar kit for sale on there Quote
pj_andrew Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 There was a previous thread about this,http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/forum/index.p...461f288ba1ac18f(Might work !!) Quote
Guest ronr Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 Witter make a towbar which can be fitted so as not to activate the sensors (so they say). I am getting a Brink detachable bar fitted. This has a key which locks the ball on when in use and the ball can easily be detached and stored beside the jack when not required. Quote
Guest saint Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 Hi, Where abouts in the country are you? We have just purchased a 2000 (W) Galaxy which has a Tow Bar fitted. As we have absolutely no use for it, if you are near us; we are in Ashford Kent, you could remove it and have it for nothing. Let me know if of use. Pete Quote
Guest forest Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Thanks for replies. And offer of Towbar - we live in N Wales. I have done a little resesarch now and have come up with a Brink - detachable tow ball - at Quote
Guest ronr Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Just fitted a Brink detachable towbar with double electrics. Superb!!! The bar is easily attached and removed. The electrics are on a spring loaded plate which folds up behind the bumper when not in use. A small rectangle 5cms long * 2 cms high had to be cut from the bottom of the bumper but since this was not from the coloured part of the bumper it is practically not noticible. The parking sensors work fine. :o Quote
CasaPaulo Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 The roof bars are cheaper in France so too roof boxes. I know it's not around the corner but real easy for me in London. A Quote
Guest iannicoll Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 I have also been trying to figure the best way to transport 5 bikes. I've tried lifting bikes on to the roof and I don't find it easy and have decided to try to get a bike trailer. Now I'm trying to find a trailer which is suitable and reasoably priced. Quote
