Vanbursta Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Can anyone tell me if it's possible to retro fit roof rails, I mean are all the mounting holes there or would they need to be drilled, does the trim need changing in any way, and how do you get the old trim off if necessary? I assume the headlining would need to be removed to allow access to the new roof rail bolts? has anyone done this and if so how difficult was it? Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 many posts on the forum about this matey (try the search button at the top :P here are the links to a couple: http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...6&hl=roof+rails http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...&hl=roof+rails# best of luck with the fitting! Vanbursta Posted August 25, 2006 Author Report Posted August 25, 2006 Thanks - apologies for asking again I did a search bit it didn't turn up anything (probably because I searched for roof bars (DOH) - I guess that's what happens when you are tired! Quote
Steve S. Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Hi Vanbursta, I often wonder if we are the only two members on here to own Ultimas? Anyone knowing differently feel free to chip in! Regarding your query about retro fitting roof rails..I did this on my Galaxy(see the post suggested) It's straight forward.. the holes are pre-drilled and just have threaded blanking plugs in them.Do one side at a time..ie release one side of the headliner at a time..clean hands!!Have some spare trim clips ready for the pillar trims. I used a junior hacksaw and a stanley knife to cut the rubber gutter strip (on the inside only) Takes about a couple of hours not counting contemplation time! I'm sure there is a post, possibly mine, describing this somewhere.Anyway feel free to p.m. me if you think it'll help. Regards, Steve S. Quote
Vanbursta Posted August 25, 2006 Author Report Posted August 25, 2006 Thanks Steve. I read somewhere that the Ultima version was a very limited run (4 months I think) and most people try to tell me I am refering to the car wrongly as an Ultima doesn't exist. I am glad to hear from another person who has one, as I have often thought I (or my log book) may be wrong! Cheers for the reply. Perhaps we have the only 2 left :-) Quote

Perhaps we have the only 2 left :-) Ultima variety was produced from 01/10/96 to 01/03/97 in 2.8 V6 4x4 auto box only ... 6 leather seats, 9 spoke alloys and traction control as standard in addition to the Ghia X trim. ...... Nice Gals you have there and probably not many left! :16: Quote
