on my mk1 2.0l galaxy, im having a few problems with the central locking.

when you lock it, it sometimes locks and then unlocks again, then you do it again and the same, then the 3rd time, its locks no problem, this is the same when you unlock it.

its kind of hit and miss if it unlocks or locks.

i also have a problem where the interior light stays on, when it should turn off when the doors are shut. could this be cuasing me the locking problems???

any ideas???

cheers

I had a similar problem with mine although I had a Cobra remote unit fitted and it only affected the drivers door which would lock but not unlock. The key didn't work at all.

Ford dealer said it needed a new locking mechanism after having the car in all day to diagnose the fault, so I booked it for the next week as they didn't have the part. Got a phone call at lunchtime, oh sorry we need the lock motor not the lock mechanism. I booked the car in the next week as they didn't have this part either. Turned up at 5pm to collect car and they had only just finished the job, well to tell the truth they had to call in an expert on cobra units who eventually found a broken wire!!! And all that cost me 99 quid.

How can so-called experts diagnose the fault incorrectly twice and then not be able to find a broken wire??

check the wires in the rubber boots between the doors and pillars - see faq (click on link in my sig) for access
